Adnan Sami has shared his insights on the prevalent remake culture in the music industry, emphasising the importance of crediting original artists. In a conversation with media, he acknowledged that while he has no objection to remakes, the original creators should always be recognised. He believes that proper attribution is essential when reinterpreting someone else’s work.

Sami articulated that remakes have been a part of music for decades, citing examples from Western music where original composers receive recognition. He stated that the act of remaking is not inherently problematic; rather, the intention behind such decisions should be sincere and respectful towards the original creators.

He critiqued the current trend of remaking classic hits simply because they offer a safer commercial option, questioning why makers are hesitant to embrace new melodies. According to him, taking risks is vital for creativity, and he encouraged artists to explore rather than retreat into familiar territory.

Creativity Versus Commercialisation

Sami drew parallels between the music industry and cinema, observing a common tendency to favour established franchises over new concepts. He highlighted the reluctance of filmmakers to craft original superhero narratives and questioned the ongoing attraction to familiar characters. This reliance, he argues, stifles creativity and innovation in both fields.

The singer further reflected on the shift in the industry, noting that many current decision-makers come from business backgrounds rather than creative ones. He pointed out that this focus on profit often overshadows the need for artistic expression. To illustrate his point, Sami referenced historical Hollywood studios, where many individuals were initially creators before becoming business-oriented.

According to him, merely combining successful elements from different songs does not equate to true creativity. Sami maintains that genuine artistic ventures must stem from a place of originality rather than assembly-line production.

Personal Approach to Remakes and Creativity

Despite his critiques, Sami clarified that he does not oppose remaking songs outright but would wish to do so in his distinctive style while ensuring credit is given to the original artist. He sees remakes as tributes, rather than an attempt to claim ownership over someone else’s work. This clarification underlines his commitment to honouring the artistic contributions of others.

When reflecting on recent remakes, he admitted that none stood out to him immediately, although he appreciated a rendition from the film *Bachna Ae Haseeno*, where Vishal-Shekhar infused new elements into the original composition.

Sami’s enthusiasm for music remains palpable. He expressed that even after years in the industry, he continues to feel the same excitement and curiosity he had at the beginning of his career. Describing his creative process, he mentioned that the nervousness he feels is not a deterrent but rather a necessary component for stirring innovation.

He concluded by remarking on his latest song, *Ishq Tamasha*, which deviates from his customary style, incorporating unexpected musical influences. He noted that even in the process of arranging and producing, he stumbled upon a mix of rock elements with classical piano, showcasing his ability to diversify his creative approach.
