Priyanka Chopra Shares Childhood Story of Mother’s Courage During Cab Ride

The CSR Journal Magazine

Priyanka Chopra recently recounted a childhood experience involving her mother, Madhu Chopra, while promoting her upcoming film, The Bluff, on Prime Video. The actor recalled a particular incident that took place when she was only 11 years old. This event highlighted her mother’s instinctive protective nature during a cab journey in Delhi. Priyanka and her mother were traveling alone when the cab driver unexpectedly took an unfamiliar route, prompting concern from Madhu.

Mother’s Reaction to Potential Danger

During an interaction, Priyanka elaborated on the episode, stating, “We were in a cab, I must have been 11 years old. We were staying at a hotel in Delhi. Suddenly, I don’t know, all I saw was my mother holding the throat of the driver.

” Madhu confronted the driver who insisted the detour was a shortcut. Unbeknownst to them, it was just the two of them in the cab. Determined to ensure their safety, she firmly commanded the driver to return to the main road.

Physical Confrontation and Subsequent Impact

Priyanka further shared that her mother even slapped the driver, instructing him to turn back. “She said, I’m with my teenage daughter. I had never seen that side of my mother,” Priyanka noted.

The encounter clearly left an impression on her, as she remarked that she did not engage in disagreements with her mother for four months following the incident. Reflecting on her mother’s behavior, Priyanka pondered whether Madhu would have acted similarly if she had been alone, mentioning that her mother appeared shaken upon their return to the hotel.

Connection to Upcoming Film The Bluff

This incident closely connects to the themes explored in The Bluff, where Priyanka portrays Ercell Bodden, a former pirate intent on protecting her family when her past resurfaces. The film, directed by Frank E. Flowers and co-written by Joe Ballarini, also features actors Karl Urban, Ismael Cruz Cordova, Safia Oakley-Green, and Temuera Morrison. The Bluff is set to be available for streaming starting February 20.

Priyanka Chopra’s Ongoing Projects

On the professional front, Priyanka was recently featured in the series Heads of State and has several other projects lined up, including Judgment Day and a cameo appearance in A Very Jonas Christmas. Additionally, she is preparing for a notable return to Indian cinema with Varanasi, directed by S. S. Rajamouli, in which she stars alongside Mahesh Babu and Prithviraj Sukumaran. This anticipated film is scheduled to be released in theaters on April 7, 2027.
