PM Modi Honors Soldiers on Pulwama Attack Anniversary

The CSR Journal Magazine

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday paid heartfelt tributes to the soldiers who lost their lives in the 2019 Pulwama terror attack, describing them as “brave heroes” whose sacrifice continues to inspire the nation.

In a post on social media platform X, Modi said the courage and devotion of the fallen personnel remain deeply embedded in India’s collective memory. “Remembering the brave heroes who laid down their lives in Pulwama on this day in 2019. Their devotion, resolve and service to the nation remain forever etched in our collective consciousness. Every Indian draws strength from their enduring courage,” he wrote.

Vice President C. P. Radhakrishnan also paid homage, stating that the supreme sacrifice of the personnel continues to inspire efforts to build a strong and secure India.

One Of The Deadliest Attacks On Security Forces

On February 14, 2019, the Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir witnessed one of the most devastating terror strikes in India’s recent history. A convoy of the Central Reserve Police Force travelling on the Srinagar–Jammu National Highway was targeted in a suicide bombing that killed 40 personnel.

The convoy comprised 78 buses carrying nearly 2,500 CRPF personnel from Jammu to Srinagar. An explosives-laden vehicle rammed into one of the buses, triggering a massive blast that caused extensive casualties and destruction.

The Pakistan-based militant group Jaish-e-Mohammed claimed responsibility for the attack, stating that it was carried out by a suicide bomber.

Aftermath And Escalation

The attack drew widespread international condemnation and prompted heightened security measures across Jammu and Kashmir. In response, India launched a series of counter-terror operations, including airstrikes on alleged terror camps across the border in Pakistan.

The military action significantly escalated tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbours and marked a turning point in regional security dynamics.

Seven years later, the Pulwama attack continues to be remembered as a “Black Day” in India’s security history – a solemn reminder of the cost of terrorism and the sacrifice of those who serve the nation.

Across the country, tributes poured in for the fallen personnel, reaffirming a collective resolve to honour their memory and strengthen national security against future threats.
