Patna Schools Up to Class 8 Shut Till June 27 as Heatwave Conditions Persist

The CSR Journal Magazine
  • The Patna district administration has enacted a closure of all schools up to Class 8 until June 27, 2026, in light of ongoing heatwave conditions. The maximum temperature in Patna has consistently been around 38 degrees Celsius over the past several days, leading to concerns about the impact of extreme heat on young students. District Magistrate Kundan Kumar has issued this directive under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023.

Health and Safety Concerns

The decision to suspend academic activities for students from pre-school to Class 8 applies to both government and private institutions across the district. The district administration indicated that the sustained high temperatures could pose significant risks to children’s health. This precautionary step aims to limit their exposure to hazardous heat conditions during school hours.

Authorities have also been mandated to ensure strict adherence to the closure order. The District Magistrate has assigned the District Education Officer, along with other relevant officials, the responsibility of monitoring compliance among schools to ensure that the guidelines are observed effectively.

In addition, the administration has urged parents to take proactive measures for the safety of their children. They have been advised to minimise outdoor exposure during peak afternoon hours and to implement heat-safety practices recommended by the Health Department. This initiative intends to safeguard children from heat-related ailments while schools are not in session.

Future Considerations and Monitoring

This school closure is temporary and specifically affects academic activities up to Class 8. Decisions regarding the reopening of schools will rely heavily on the evaluation of weather conditions as well as a comprehensive review of the situation by the district administration. Authorities will continue to assess the ongoing weather data and provide updates as necessary.

Many regions in Bihar have recently experienced a rise in temperatures, while rainfall has not met expectations. The administration plans to closely observe weather conditions in the days ahead before announcing any further directives. The health and welfare of students will remain a priority as the situation develops.

Students and parents are encouraged to stay informed through official communications released by the district administration and respective schools, ensuring they follow any new instructions or updates that may arise. The importance of adhering to these guidelines cannot be overstated, particularly during this period of extreme weather.
