Only Three Indian Institutes Featured in QS World University Rankings 2027

The QS World University Rankings for 2027 have been published, revealing that only three Indian universities have made it into the global top 200. The Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) has positioned itself as the highest-ranked institution in India, ascending from 123rd in the previous year to 118th this year, with a score of 65.7.

IIT Delhi’s impressive ranking highlights its ongoing commitment to excellence in education and research. The institute’s climb reflects improvements in several metrics that measure its academic standing and impact.

Performance of India’s Top Three Universities

This year, IIT Delhi achieved notable scores in key evaluation indicators. It received an outstanding score of 97.3 for Citations per Faculty, indicating the significant impact of its research output. In terms of Academic Reputation, it scored 64.6, while Employer Reputation was rated at 96.9, demonstrating the high regard in which its graduates are held by employers. Employment Outcomes received a score of 59.6, along with a score of 66.5 for the International Research Network and 81.2 for Sustainability.

IIT Bombay, the second-best-performing institution in India, secured a global rank of 134th. Its scores included 79.3 in Citations per Faculty, 72.5 in Academic Reputation, and a remarkable 97.8 in Employer Reputation. This institution also recorded 78.2 in Employment Outcomes, 42.1 in the International Research Network, and 79.4 in Sustainability.

IIT Madras ranked 170th worldwide and exhibited robust performance metrics as well. It achieved a high score of 95.3 in Citations per Faculty, while its Academic Reputation was rated at 55.1. Employer Reputation garnered a score of 87.4, alongside employment-related indicators, which scored 53.2 in Employment Outcomes, 52.2 in the International Research Network, and 74.8 in Sustainability.

Overview of Indian Universities in Rankings

The top global rank continues to be led by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), maintaining its position for the 15th consecutive year, followed by renowned institutions such as Imperial College London and Stanford University. The consistent performance of these universities sets a benchmark for others aiming to excel in higher education.
