A senior producer with NDTV was pursued by two men early Friday night while driving home from her Noida office in Sector-129 to her residence in Delhi’s Vasant Kunj. She was travelling in her car when two men on a scooter began following and signalling her to stop. Despite her refusal, they persisted in tailing her along the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway.
Dangerous Encounter and Damage
As traffic slowed her vehicle, the pillion rider, identified as Shubham, allegedly jumped off the scooter and struck her car’s windscreen. He then tried to open her locked door. The producer accelerated and managed to reach the DND Flyway, but the harassment continued: the attacker used a wooden object to smash the rear windscreen and left rear window of her car. She maintained composure and kept driving while recording the incident on her phone.
The journalist said that as she was driving her car- a Ford Figo- on the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway, the men riding a scooty started following her.
“They tried to stop me. Initially, I ignored them, but I later noticed that they were trying to block my car. The men gestured to me to stop, but I continued to drive. I took out my phone and started recording them in an attempt to ward them off,” she said.
“I sped up and somehow managed to reach the DND Flyway. However, the two men kept following me. I also contacted my colleague and asked what to do, to which they said to keep driving and do not stop,” she said.
Rescue and Police Action
Near the Ashram area, she alerted police with live location updates. At Lajpat Nagar, a group of taxi drivers noticed her distress and instructed her to stop safely. She pulled over at Gupta Market, and the two men were no longer following. The police arrived, recorded her statement, and registered an FIR citing stalking and criminal intimidation.
Two suspects, Deepak and Shubham, both residents of Delhi’s Dabri and with multiple criminal cases, have been arrested. The investigation continues with technical surveillance, CCTV and call-detail record checks underway.
“I asked them (cab drivers) to help me, and they told me to park my car to the side. I stopped my car at the Gupta market in Lajpat Nagar, and the two men on the scooty were gone,” she added.
Initial Claim Under Scrutiny
One of the accused claimed they had been following the journalist because she allegedly hit their scooter, a version currently being verified by investigators, who say CCTV footage confirms the incident originated in Noida. Meanwhile the second accused remains at large as police search for him.
