Nitin Nabin Highlights Youth Empowerment at West Bengal Conclave

The CSR Journal Magazine

Nitin Nabin, the National President of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), stressed the importance of a robust youth policy alongside sports development in West Bengal. During his address at the Yuva Samvad Conclave in Kolkata on September 28, he referred to the state’s rich legacy in various fields such as arts, literature, and culture. Nabin expressed his belief that these aspects could foster a renewed hope among the youth of West Bengal.

He acknowledged the progress made in creating a sense of trust in the region, stating that West Bengal had transitioned from an environment of fear to one of hope. Nabin urged Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari to focus on developing policies that specifically cater to the youth. He articulated that the younger generation no longer seeks jobs but rather aims to create opportunities for themselves.

Nabin also highlighted the effective establishment of a startup ecosystem in India, attributing this to the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He noted that as a result, over 250,000 startups and more than 125 unicorns have emerged across the nation, illustrating the entrepreneurial spirit among the youth.

Youth Culture and Authenticity in the Digital Age

The BJP leader brought attention to the evolving nature of youth engagement with media, particularly social media. He remarked that authenticity is a key value for today’s generation, remarking that they are drawn to what is real rather than fabricated representations. Nabin indicated that social media ‘Reels’ that showcase authenticity are the ones that resonate most with the youth, highlighting a cultural shift that prioritises genuine experiences over curated images.

He expressed concern that sports and culture have been increasingly sidelined, replaced by digital distractions. Reflecting on the past, he mentioned how children formerly spent their afternoons playing outdoors, a practice that seems to have diminished in current times. This shift, he implied, has detracted from West Bengal’s rich sporting culture, which he feels is integral to the state’s identity.

Nabin reiterated that West Bengal possesses a unique blend of attributes—sports, art, literature, and culture—that contributes to its social fabric. He lamented the impact of mobile phone usage on children’s outdoor activities and called for collective efforts to revive the state’s sporting legacy.

Describing Progress and Addressing Criticism

In conversations with media, Nabin perceived a growing optimism among the youth during his visit. He believed there has been significant progress under the BJP-led government in implementing promises made in their manifesto. He commended Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari for translating these pledges into actionable outcomes, thereby nurturing a brighter future for the state.

Nabin also addressed recent criticisms from former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee regarding the Election Commission’s electoral rolls controversy. He interpreted Banerjee’s remarks as stemming from frustration, suggesting that if Congress members only critique the Election Commission when it favours their opponents, it exposes a double standard. He called for greater accountability from the Trinamool Congress (TMC) in recognising public sentiment.

His visit underscored key organisational efforts and public engagements, indicating a proactive approach by BJP in strengthening its presence in West Bengal. The culmination of activities over the two days highlighted Nabin’s commitment to fostering a developed West Bengal, aligning with the national vision of a ‘Developed India’ under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership.
