Saturday morning began with disbelief in Chandiberia, New Town, when locals stumbled upon something no one should ever have to see the body of a newborn baby boy lying in a garbage dump.

Man Finds Newborn’s Body In Dump

The shocking sight was first noticed by Pradeep Haldar, who had stepped out for tea around 6 am. While walking nearby, he saw an object that didn’t look right. “I had come to a tea shop around 6 am and had gone towards the garage to throw something when I saw something lying there… on closer inspection, I saw it was a newborn child. I immediately called the police and the locals,” he told reporters.

Within minutes, police from New Town station arrived and secured the area. The infant’s body was then taken to Bidhannagar Sub-Divisional Hospital for post-mortem examination.

Cause Of Death Awaited

Officials said early signs indicate the baby was a male child and may have been abandoned late at night. “A preliminary investigation suggests the baby was a male child, abandoned late last night. The exact cause of death will be confirmed after the autopsy report,” a senior officer said.

Investigators are now scanning CCTV footage from nearby streets and checking hospitals and maternity clinics to trace any recent deliveries connected to the case. The probe is ongoing.
