Several prominent figures from the Indian film industry have come forward to show their support for those affected by the recent flash floods along the Nepal-Tibet border. Notable personalities such as Farhan Akhtar, Kangana Ranaut, Bhumi Pednekar, Sonu Sood, Manisha Koirala, and Sanjay Dutt have expressed their condolences and offered assistance through various social media platforms. Their messages included expressions of grief, prayers, and information on support helplines for those in need.

The flooding crisis has significantly impacted many regions in Nepal, disrupting rescue efforts and travel. This disaster has also raised concerns for tourists in the area, including Bengali actor Kharaj Mukherjee and his wife Pratibha Mukherjee, who are reportedly stranded after their planned return was postponed.

Casualties and Damage Reported

The catastrophic flash floods, which occurred on August 26, have resulted in the deaths of at least 475 individuals, with nearly 1,500 people still unaccounted for along both the Nepal and Tibet sides of the border. The disaster was triggered by an ice-rock avalanche following a glacial collapse, leading to torrents of water, mud, and debris that obliterated homes, roads, and bridges.

In response to this calamity, Farhan Akhtar publicly conveyed his emotional support, utilising his platform to raise awareness about the unfolding situation. He also provided helpline numbers to assist families and individuals affected by the floods. Similarly, Bhumi Pednekar shared images from flood-affected regions on her social media and urged her followers to engage with the emergency contact details she posted.

Kangana Ranaut highlighted the situation on X, stressing the widespread tragedy while noting the severity of the circumstances in China, which she alleged was the starting point of the floods. She referenced comments made by Sadhguru regarding approximately 80 pilgrims connected to the Isha Foundation who are reportedly missing.

Community Support Initiatives

Actor Sonu Sood affirmed his commitment to assist those stranded or mourning lost loved ones due to the inundation. Through his platform on X, he assured the public of his intention to provide food, shelter, and comprehensive support, declaring, “Nepal, you are not alone. We are coming with food, shelter, and the strength to help you rebuild.”

Manisha Koirala also engaged with her audience by sharing visuals of the floods on her Instagram Stories, paying homage to the victims and requesting prayers for her homeland. Similarly, Sanjay Dutt extended his sentiments, expressing his solidarity with those impacted, stating in his social media story, “I stand with you in this difficult time and will always be there to support you in whatever way I can.”

The Mukherjee family’s situation has raised further concern, as Kharaj Mukherjee and his wife had travelled to Nepal for a film shoot and found their return compromised by the floods. Their son, Tamaghna Mukherjee, confirmed on Instagram that he had spoken to them and reassured concerned friends and family that both were safe, despite complications caused by heavy rains affecting their filming schedule.

As of now, the floods have not only disrupted travel and communication across Nepal but have also raised alarms regarding the safety of Indian tourists and other visitors. The continued expressions of support from various film personalities have reinforced public concern as the region grapples with the aftermath of the disaster.
