12-Year-Old Madrasa Student Murdered After Repeated Sexual Abuse in Odisha; 5 Minors Detained

The CSR Journal Magazine

In a shocking incident a 12-year-old boy studying at a madrasa in Nayagarh district was allegedly murdered. The murder was carried out by the victim’s five fellow students. The death comes after enduring months of sexual abuse, police revealed. The shocking incident has led to the detention of five juveniles, aged between 12 and 15, who have been sent to a juvenile detention centre in Angul.

Repeated Sexual Assault & Initial Attempt to Kill

According to the police, the victim, originally from Cuttack district, had been sexually assaulted multiple times over a period of six months by senior students at the madrasa in Neelapalli, under Ranpur police station limits.

On August 31, following another such assault, two students attacked him and threw him into a septic tank, presuming he was dead. Miraculously, the boy managed to survive and escape that night.

Lured and Murdered Two Days Later

On September 2, two students tricked the boy into returning to the same location under the guise of helping him. There, three others joined, and together they allegedly physically assaulted and strangled him. The boy’s body was later found in an abandoned septic tank on the madrasa premises on September 3.

Investigations revealed CCTV footage showing the five accused leading the victim to a secluded area. Forensic evidence and eyewitness statements confirmed their involvement. The main accused, a 15-year-old, was reportedly coercing the victim into a sexual relationship for several months and plotted the murder when the victim threatened to expose them.

Legal Action Under POCSO and BNS

All five juveniles have been charged under the Prevention of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012, and Section 103 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023 (murder). The case has been presented before the Juvenile Justice Board. The madrasa administration has removed all five accused from its records and seized their birth documents.
