‘Namazwaad, Not Samajwaad’: BJP Attacks INDIA Bloc Over Waqf Act Remarks in Bihar

The BJP attacked RJD for hiding ‘namazwaad’ in the name of ‘samajwaad’. The saffron party accused them of hiding their agenda of religion under the guise of socialism. This criticism came after RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav commented that if voted to power in Bihar, he would throw away the Waqf Act into the dustbin.

BJP national spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi called out the INDIA block- RJD, Congress and left parties in Bihar for the lack of respect for the Indian Constitution by making such statements about the Waqf Act, that has been passed by the Parliament and is currently in the Supreme Court’s consideration.

During a press conference, Trivedi stated that the opposition alliance in Bihar is driven by vote bank politics, primarily catering to Muslim voters, as reflected in their opposition to the Waqf Act due to discontent among a significant section of the community. He further alleged that the INDIA bloc is trying to enforce Sharia provisions secretly.

He said that states like Telangana and Karnataka are providing reservations to Muslims by cutting into the quotas meant for Hindu OBCs, SCs, and STs, and West Bengal is also attempting to follow the same footsteps. “BJP-led NDA is committed to the Constitution drafted by B R Ambedkar.”

Trivedi further shared that ‘Save the Constitution’ is just a façade used by INDIA block—their real agenda is to bring in Sharia law. “In case they come into power, they will insert religious practices like ‘Namazwad’ into the Constitution’s preamble. They have a main agenda and that is to turn the Constitution into a Sharia-based document, but BJP will not let that happen.”

“Bihar is heading towards change,” said RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav, adding that the new government in the state, led by the opposition alliance, will “throw the Waqf Act introduced by the Narendra Modi government into the dustbin.” He was addressing a rally in Patna related to ‘Save Waqf, Save Constitution’. Bihar will go to election that is scheduled later this year.

Trivedi further added that the BJP will not allow anyone to throw Ambedkar’s Constitution into the dustbin. “The Sharia provisions the RJD is trying to in force isn’t even practiced in Islamic countries, including Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Turkiye”.

Claiming that the RJD wants to give Waqf land in hands of a few self-appointed Muslim religious leaders, he said such characters will never use the land for the genuine welfare of the community.

“Socialism stands for the equitable distribution of wealth, but parties like the RJD and Samajwadi Party are doing the opposite. Instead of promoting true socialism, they are aligning with a select few religious figures. This isn’t samajwaad (socialism), it’s namazwaad,” he alleged.
