The Mumbai Police has officially announced the transfer of the case concerning the death of IIT Bombay student Sahil Ravindra Wakode, aged 20, to the Crime Branch. This decision was made on September 20, following the registration of the case at Powai Police Station. The investigation is currently being led by an officer of the rank of Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) and is closely monitored by the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) in charge of Detection-I at the Crime Branch.

In their statement, the Mumbai Police confirmed that the case has been allotted the Criminal Case Registration (CCR) number 124/2026 and expressed their commitment to investigating the matter thoroughly. They emphasised that all possible angles will be examined during the process.

Authorities have urged the public to avoid speculation and refrain from spreading misinformation regarding the case. The police specifically requested that media outlets rely solely on information disseminated through official channels. This step aims to maintain the integrity of the ongoing investigation and to ensure a fair process.

Family’s Plea for Justice

The father of Sahil Wakode, Ravindra Wakode, has publicly called for the immediate arrest of two individuals named in the first information report (FIR) related to his son’s death. He expressed concerns regarding the lack of action taken so far in apprehending the suspects. Ravindra Wakode questioned why there has been no arrest following the FIR and implored the authorities to demonstrate that they are actively addressing the situation.

Speaking to ANI, he stated, “No action has been taken. If they have taken action, they should show us. Why haven’t they arrested them? Where is the arrest?” His remarks reflect the family’s desire for justice and transparency throughout the investigative proceedings.

Despite the family’s frustrations, Ravindra Wakode mentioned that they intend to cooperate with the ongoing investigation and not interfere with police procedures. He indicated that they plan to hold a peaceful protest in Powai to express their demands for justice for Sahil.
