The CSR Journal Magazine

A BJP leader in Madhya Pradesh’s Satna district has been arrested after a video allegedly showing him threatening and abusing a woman went viral on social media, triggering widespread outrage. The accused, Ashok Singh, husband of a BJP councillor in Rampur Baghelan Nagar Parishad, was taken into custody by Rampur Baghelan police following the registration of an FIR based on the woman’s complaint.

FIR registered under multiple BNS sections

Police have booked Singh under Sections 74, 75(2), 79, 296(1) and 351(3) of th Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which relate to molestation, criminal intimidation and issuing death threats. Officials clarified that rape has not been confirmed in the preliminary investigation or in official police statements so far. The woman’s statement has been recorded, and further investigation is underway.

In the widely shared video, Singh is allegedly heard saying, “What will happen to me? Nothing will happen. Complaint wherever you want.” The woman can be heard crying and saying she would approach the police.

At one point, the woman told him, “I will go to the SP office right now.” He countered, “Go wherever you want. I haven’t done anything wrong, nothing will happen to me.

The exchange then turns more serious, with the woman accusing him directly of rape, saying, “You raped me.” The man denied the allegation and repeatedly dared her to complain, saying, “. Let’s see who can do anything. Nothing will happen to me.”

Serious allegations spanning six months

In her written complaint to Satna Superintendent of Police Hansraj Singh, the woman accused Ashok Singh of raping her at knifepoint around six months ago. She alleged that he recorded the act on his mobile phone and threatened to kill her and her family if she disclosed the incident. The survivor said fear forced her into silence for months.

According to the complaint, the harassment resumed on December 20, when Singh allegedly molested her again and repeated his threats. She claimed he pressured her to continue complying with his demands, warning that the recorded video would be made public if she refused.

What the viral video shows

The controversy escalated after a video dated December 26 went viral. In the clip, Singh is allegedly seen misbehaving with the woman at a shop, using abusive language and openly asserting that no action could be taken against him. The woman is heard saying she would approach the police and social media, while Singh allegedly responds defiantly, daring her to complain and claiming he was untouchable.

Allegations of influence and police inaction

The woman has also accused Singh of regularly visiting her shop, verbally abusing her and creating an atmosphere of fear. She claimed he has a criminal background and had previously been externed from the district. The survivor further alleged police inaction, stating she approached authorities days earlier but no immediate steps were taken. She warned that police would be responsible if any harm came to her or her family.

Probe transferred, assurances given

Following the uproar, the investigation has been transferred to Deputy Superintendent of Police Manoj Trivedi. Police officials said they are verifying the authenticity of the viral video and examining all available evidence. Local authorities have maintained that the law is equal for all and assured a fair and impartial probe, irrespective of the accused’s political connections.
