A shocking domestic dispute turned deadly in the Ambegaon rehabilitation colony of Kedgaon, Ahmednagar district. The incident occurred around 70 kilometres from Pune district. Here, an 11-month-old baby was fatally struck on the head by a trishul (trident) on Thursday. The infant, identified as Avdhut Mengwade, died instantly. The tragic incident that has left the local community in grief and disbelief.
Heated Argument leads to Death
According to police, the violence erupted during a heated argument between Pallavi Mengwade and her husband, Sachin Mengwade. As tensions escalated, Pallavi allegedly picked up a trishul in an attempt to attack her brother-in-law, Nitin Mengwade. According to reports, Nitin, along with his wife Bhagyashree, was trying to intervene and calm the situation between the couple.
However, tragedy unfolded, as Bhagyashree was holding her 11-month-old son Avdhut at the time. As Nitin dodged the weapon, the sharp trident struck the child’s head with fatal force. The infant died on the spot. The parents rushed the child to a nearby hospital. The doctors declared the infant dead on arrival.
Child Struck with Trishul
Following the death of the child, the Hospital authorities informed the police about the incident. Senior Inspector Narayan Deshmukh confirmed that a case has been registered at the Police station. Both Pallavi and Sachin Mengwade are named in the FIR.
All three adults present during the incident Pallavi, Sachin, and Nitin were reportedly taken into custody for questioning.
Investigation underway
The police also noted that during initial investigations efforts were made to tamper with the crime scene. Police sources further revealed that the trident was cleaned. In addition the bloodstains at the scene were wiped off. This appeared to be an attempt to destroy evidence at the crime scene. The police also sent Forensic teams at the site to collect samples for further analysis and investigations.
Meanwhile, authorities are also looking into the possible involvement of superstition. This is because of the use of a religious object in the altercation. The area remains tense as the investigation proceeds.
