A minor boy, but portly, fell into an open sewer in southwest Delhi’s Rajokri area on Thursday afternoon. Police received this news at 1:24 PM, after which the security personnel and emergency responders rushed to the scene.

According to the concerned police officers, some local children witnessed the boy falling into the open drain. To handle the situation, an earthmover was called to remove the material and clean the sewer chamber. In the rescue project, the Delhi Fire Services were also looped in, involving one fire tender and four fire staff members.

The Delhi Disaster Management Authority team (DDMA), that included a person in charge and three drivers, also reached the spot to assist in the rescue operation. Additionally, MCD personnel along with four sanitation workers were deployed to help, but seven hours after the PCR call was made, the boy remained untraced.

“As of now, the identity of the child or his parents/guardians could not be ascertained. No missing report has been lodged so far. The incident occurred near the Shiv Mandir in Rajokri village, close to the MCD school. The sewer belongs to the NMCD and was found open from the side,” said the concerned police officer to the national media.
