What began as an ordinary workday at a small beauty parlour in Rohtak ended in shock and violence on Thursday morning, when a 31-year-old woman was found murdered at her workplace. Police later arrested her brother in connection with the killing.

The incident occurred around 10.30 am at a parlour near Mata Darwaza Chowk, a busy area of the city. The victim, Maya, was alone inside the parlour when her brother, identified as Lala, arrived and got into a verbal altercation with her, police said.

DSP Describes the Incident

Deputy Superintendent of Police Ravi Khundia said, “On Thursday morning, at around 10.30 am, the police received information that a woman was found murdered at her beauty parlour.”

According to officers who reached the scene, the argument quickly turned violent. “After the heated argument, apparently in a fit of rage, the man killed the woman by cutting her throat. When a young woman named Laxmi, who worked at the parlour, tried to intervene, Lala attacked her also, leaving her injured too,” a police officer who inspected the spot told reporters.

Laxmi was rushed to a hospital by people in the area even before the police arrived. She is currently undergoing treatment for her injuries. Maya was declared dead at the scene.

Police said the accused fled after the attack but was later taken into custody. “The motive behind the murder will be known only after questioning the accused,” DSP Khundia said, adding that investigators were also trying to gather information from the injured woman.

Forensic Team Reaches the Spot

A forensic science laboratory team examined the parlour and collected evidence as part of the investigation. Maya’s body was sent for post-mortem examination and later kept in the mortuary to be handed over to her family.

Officials said Maya had divorced her husband and was running the beauty parlour on her own. In another statement, police said the woman’s family informed them that she had been in a live-in relationship, a decision her brother allegedly opposed.

“The accused exchanged some heated arguments with his sister on Thursday morning and then he killed her. We have registered a murder case and the accused was arrested and we are interrogating him,” the DSP added.

Police said further details about the motive will emerge as questioning continues.
