The CSR Journal Magazine

A man has been apprehended following the brutal killing of his wife and father in Bankura district, West Bengal, on the night of Monday, October 19, 2026. The accused, identified as Mangal Choudhury, allegedly murdered his 39-year-old wife, Rumpa Choudhury, before turning on his father, Rajendra Choudhury, who was approximately 60 years old. This shocking incident has caused widespread panic among local residents, who reported seeing Mangal wandering the village with a knife shortly after the attacks.

The horrific events unfolded in the Lal Baba Manachar area, situated along the Damodar River, which lies near the border of Sonamukhi police station in Bankura district and Kanksa police station in Paschim Bardhaman district. According to eyewitness accounts, Mangal placed his wife’s severed head in front of a trident at a worship site within their home, further escalating the terror felt by the community.

Upon receiving reports of the incident, police from both Sonamukhi and Kanksa stations arrived at the scene to investigate. They recovered the bodies of the deceased individuals, which have since been sent for post-mortem examinations to ascertain the exact cause of death. The local police are currently piecing together the circumstances surrounding this tragic event.

Accused Allegedly Roamed Village with Knife

Local residents reported that Mangal Choudhury also attempted to attack his brother during the incident; however, the brother managed to flee. Witnesses noted that Mangal was seen moving through the village with a knife in hand, which created an atmosphere of fear among the community members. The police acted swiftly to control the situation, ultimately leading to Mangal’s arrest.

As part of the investigation, it has been revealed that Mangal injured one of his fingers prior to the killings. He was subsequently admitted to Bankura Sammilani Medical College and Hospital for treatment. Due to his medical condition, police have been unable to present him before a court as of now.

Authorities are diligently examining the sequence of events that led to the double murder, seeking to understand the motivations behind Mangal’s actions. The investigation is ongoing, with police interviewing individuals who may possess relevant information about the family and the incidents leading up to the tragic events.

Police Investigate Possible Tantric Ritual Connection

Investigators are exploring the possibility that the murders may be linked to tantric practices, although no official confirmation has been made regarding this angle. Local residents have indicated that Mangal and Rumpa regularly engaged in prayers at a temple located within their home. Furthermore, it has been reported that a tantric practitioner often visited the family, raising speculation about the potential influence of occult practices on the incident.

Despite these claims, the motive behind the double murder remains unclear. Investigators are also considering whether anyone else may have influenced or incited Mangal to commit these acts. The police are actively questioning community members who may have insights into the family’s dynamics and the events that transpired prior to the killings.

The community has been left in shock following the violent deaths of two family members. As the investigation unfolds, police are committed to examining all aspects of the case, including the reported religious practices within the household, while refraining from confirming any direct connection between these practices and the tragic events that occurred.
