LPG Booking Timelines Remain Unchanged, Government Confirms Steady Supply

The CSR Journal Magazine

Recent concerns regarding changes to LPG refill booking timelines have been addressed by government officials. They clarified that reports suggesting any modifications are inaccurate and that the existing regulations remain intact. The government’s statement followed numerous social media posts and news articles that indicated new waiting periods for various types of LPG connections.

A press release issued by the Press Information Bureau (PIB) on March 25, 2026, confirmed, “It is clarified that no such changes have been made. The existing refill booking timelines remain unchanged and continue to be: 25 days in urban areas, and 45 days in rural areas, irrespective of connection type.” The release also noted that there are no distinct timelines for Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) and non-PMUY users.

Officials have urged the public to refrain from spreading unverified information and have advised against panic-triggered booking of cylinders. They emphasized that sufficient LPG supply is maintained throughout the nation.

Enhanced Focus on Natural Gas Infrastructure

Concurrently, the government has initiated a new directive aimed at optimizing the distribution mechanism for natural gas and petroleum products. This effort seeks to streamline the process of pipeline installation and enhance the expansion of gas networks nationwide.

The PIB’s release on March 24 stated, “The Order aims to facilitate the expansion of piped natural gas (PNG) networks, improve last-mile connectivity, and promote a shift towards cleaner fuels for cooking, transport, and industrial purposes, thereby strengthening energy security and supporting India’s transition to a gas-based economy.” With a streamlined approval process, the initiative aims to accelerate infrastructure development, particularly in residential sectors, ensuring smoother access to gas supplies.

In related developments, the Indian LPG carriers Pine Gas and Jag Vasant have successfully navigated the Strait of Hormuz, currently en route to India under the protection of the Indian Navy. These vessels are transporting approximately 92,000 tonnes of LPG, expected to arrive by March 26-27.
