The CSR Journal Magazine

Malhar Patekar, the son of the late actor Nana Patekar, has shared insights into his life following his father’s death. He addressed various rumours concerning his family dynamics and the statements made by actress Tanushree Dutta. In an interview with Hindustan Times, Malhar remarked that the case involving his father had been resolved long ago and expressed his desire for peace.

He stated, “The case people are bringing up unnecessarily is already over. The judiciary has cleared it; the case is finished, yet they still keep talking.” He further expressed that he wished to remain above the fray, saying, “I have nothing to say to such people. The truth will remain the truth. May God bless them.” This comment was made in light of ongoing discussions surrounding the allegations made against his father.

Tanushree Dutta’s Allegations

In 2018, Tanushree Dutta accused Nana Patekar and others of sexual harassment during the filming of ‘Horn OK Pleasss’, a project she ultimately abandoned. Her allegations resurfaced during the #MeToo movement in India, where she revisited her claims against Patekar, choreographer Ganesh Acharya, and the film’s producer.

Following Patekar’s death on October 8 in Goa, Dutta shared a video on her Instagram Stories, referring to him as an “evil dead.” She later reiterated to the media that she would not forget the experiences she had on set. Malhar Patekar’s remarks come amidst this backdrop, as he seeks to clarify his family’s position and the impact of these allegations on their lives.

He emphasised that the case had been resolved and that it was time to move forward. In the same interview, Malhar also addressed speculation surrounding his parents’ relationship, dismissing claims of separation and familial discord. He stated that he had been raised in a nurturing environment and that both his parents had provided him with a loving childhood.

Clarifying Fam Dynamics and Father’s Health

Malhar Patekar also took the opportunity to dispel rumours regarding his father’s health and the circumstances of his final days. He asserted that Nana was never alone during his last moments, stating, “He was not alone, nor was he unwell; we were always by his side.” Malhar highlighted his father’s fitness, mentioning that Nana maintained an active lifestyle, reportedly working out for two and a half hours daily.

Moreover, he discussed his father’s commitment to social work, revealing that this engagement brought Nana joy in his later years. Malhar explained that his father had become selective about film roles, preferring to focus on projects that allowed for personal growth and storytelling. “He believed in evolving as an actor,” Malhar noted.

Malhar reminisced about Nana’s approach to acting, citing his role in Khamoshi as an example of his father’s desire to showcase his talent without relying on heavy dialogue. He mentioned that social work had become a significant focus for Nana, who dedicated time to initiatives supporting education in Kashmir and farmers’ welfare.

Nana Patekar’s Legacy and Final Moments

Nana Patekar passed away from a heart attack after experiencing chest pain early in the morning. He was cremated with full state honours later that evening at his farmhouse in Pune, attended by family, friends, and colleagues from the film industry. Patekar’s career spanned five decades, leaving behind a rich legacy in Indian cinema.

His filmography includes notable works such as ‘Parinda’ (1989), ‘Prahaar’ (1991), and ‘Khamoshi: The Musical’ (1996), among many others. Malhar Patekar’s reflections on his father’s life and work highlight the complexities of their family dynamics while honouring Nana’s contributions to both cinema and society. As Malhar navigates life without his father, he aims to continue the legacy of social work that was important to Nana, ensuring that his father’s values endure.
