‘Killed for Reels’: Dwarka Crash Victim’s Mother Demands Justice, Alleges Reckless Driving by Minor

The CSR Journal Magazine

In New Delhi, a mother, Inna Makan, is calling for justice following the tragic death of her 23-year-old son, Sahil Dhaneshra, in a road accident. The incident occurred on February 3, when a sports utility vehicle allegedly driven by a minor collided with Sahil’s motorcycle. According to Makan, the driver and his sister had been making social media reels, showcasing reckless driving.

“I raised my child for 23 years as a single mother. On February 3, my innocent child was blown away by a car. I am a helpless mother,” she said in the video, appealing to media organisations and residents of Dwarka to support her in seeking justice.

She stated that the driver was operating the vehicle at high speeds and in the wrong lane, performing stunts before the fatal collision. Makan described how her son attempted to check for oncoming traffic, only to be struck by the SUV that crashed into a parked car afterwards. The negligence led to not only her son’s death but also to serious injuries sustained by a taxi driver involved in the crash.

Accusations Against the Driver

Makan emphasized the severity of the situation, characterizing the actions of the minor driver as a criminal offense. She condemned the sense of impunity displayed by such individuals, attributing it to their privileged backgrounds. According to her, the driver had a history of speeding violations, yet no corrective measures had been taken by his family to prevent further misconduct.

She expressed deep concern about public safety, highlighting that her son’s death was a result of reckless behavior rather than a mere accident. Makan reiterated the need for accountability and greater enforcement of traffic regulations to ensure that others do not suffer similar fates on the roads.

Official Response and Investigation

Authorities are conducting a thorough investigation into the incident, which took place near Lal Bahadur Shastri College in Dwarka South. The initial report indicates that the minor driving the SUV lacked a valid driving license. Following the accident, police officials registered a case under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. First responders found Sahil deceased at the scene, while the injured taxi driver was transported to IGI Hospital for medical treatment.

Legal Proceedings and Current Status

The driver, being a minor, was taken into custody and brought before a Juvenile Justice Board, where he was subsequently placed in an Observation Home. A grant of interim bail was issued on February 10, specifically due to the driver’s ongoing Class 10 board examinations. Meanwhile, the police have secured all vehicles involved in the accident for mechanical inspection and have gathered CCTV footage from the surrounding area to assist with their inquiries.

Mother’s Plea for Reform

In her appeal for justice, Inna Makan has underscored broader societal issues stemming from wealth and privilege. She voiced her frustration over the absence of consequences for individuals who disregard traffic laws, indicating that this behavior poses a risk to other road users.

Makan believes that the system must change to prevent affluent individuals from feeling exempt from accountability for their actions. As the investigation continues, she remains vigilant in her quest for justice, hoping that her son’s death will not be in vain and that meaningful reforms will be instituted to enhance road safety for everyone.
