Jewellery Worth Rs 2 Crore Stolen From Parked Car in Delhi’s Karol Bagh

The CSR Journal Magazine

A substantial theft of jewellery valued at Rs 2 crore occurred in a parked car in Delhi’s Karol Bagh area earlier this week. The incident is reported to have taken place on Wednesday, August 19, when a jeweller from Jaipur was visiting the capital for business purposes. The victim left his vehicle with its windows partially open, allegedly facilitating the theft.

As per the information provided by local police, they promptly initiated an investigation following the receipt of the complaint. Initial investigative efforts involved scrutinising the CCTV footage from the vicinity, which captured two individuals arriving on a motorcycle. According to police statements, these individuals were observed fleeing the scene after seizing a bag from within the car.

In connection with this theft, authorities have detained three suspects. Among them are two siblings alongside the owner of the motorcycle identified in the footage. However, police have clarified that the specifics of their involvement are still subject to ongoing investigation. Additional attempts to recover evidence include an enhanced examination of the CCTV footage to trace the motorcycle’s route post-theft.

Similar Incidents in the Area

This theft incident follows closely on the heels of another robbery that occurred the previous day, involving two individuals on a motorcycle. On Tuesday, August 18, a 45-year-old jewellery shop employee was reportedly targeted while stopped at a traffic signal in Chankyapuri. The victim was en route from Karol Bagh to Vasant Kunj to display jewellery to a client when the incident unfolded.

Sources suggest that while the employee halted at a red light, the assailants approached on their motorcycle and snatched a bag containing jewellery from the employee’s scooter before escaping. This incident similarly highlights concerns about safety and security within the city, particularly in relation to the jewellery trade.

Authorities are actively analysing the CCTV footage related to this event as well, striving to identify the suspects involved and to track their movements. The jewellery community and local residents have been alerted to remain cautious following these alarming incidents.

Police Response and Investigation Efforts

The operational response from Delhi Police encompasses a broader initiative to enhance security measures amid rising robbery incidents targeting jewellery traders. Police officials have emphasised a commitment to thoroughly investigate both cases to apprehend those responsible. Community engagement has reportedly been heightened with increased police patrols in areas frequented by jewellery professionals.

In light of the recent events, police are also urging jewellers and shop employees to exercise vigilance, particularly regarding their transport of high-value items. The trade’s vulnerability to such criminal activities necessitates collaborative efforts between law enforcement and community members to safeguard interests.

As investigations continue into both cases, police are collecting testimonies from witnesses and reviewing additional surveillance footage from surrounding areas in effort to secure leads. The focus is not only on recovering the stolen jewellery but also on implementing long-term strategies to deter such criminal acts in the future.
