The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president Mithun Manhas, along with President Droupadi Murmu and YSRCP President YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, congratulated Team India following their remarkable achievement at the Asian Games. The Indian men’s cricket team secured the gold medal by defeating Pakistan by 19 runs, adding to their success after the women’s team’s victory in the same event.

The final match took place on October 3, during which Team India delivered a stellar performance, with notable contributions from players including Abhishek Sharma, Tilak Verma, and Axar Patel. This marks a significant achievement for Indian cricket, as the team has now successfully defended its title, making history by winning gold for a second consecutive time.

Reactions from Key Figures

Mithun Manhas expressed his admiration for the team on social media platform X. He stated, “A heartfelt congratulations to our incredible Indian team for bringing home the Gold at the Asian Games.” Manhas praised the efforts of the team and highlighted the significant impact of Jay Shah in the development of cricket in India. He referred to the team as “by far the best team of the tournament.” His post signifies the pride felt within the cricketing community for this remarkable accomplishment.

President Droupadi Murmu also shared her congratulatory message on X, whereby she noted the joy and pride instilled in the hearts of all Indians due to the team’s success. She remarked on the extraordinary achievement of both the men’s and women’s teams, emphasising that their victories reflect exceptional skills, determination, and teamwork.

Additionally, former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy extended his congratulations, specifically praising Tilak Varma for his outstanding performance in the final match. Reddy highlighted Varma’s crucial innings of 51 runs that contributed to India’s victory and expressed pride in the achievements of the entire squad.

Match Highlights and Key Performances

In the final match, India elected to bat first after winning the toss. Vaibhav Sooryavanshi made a brief but impactful contribution, scoring 15 runs off nine balls. Abhishek Sharma then showcased exceptional batting prowess, scoring 61 runs off 28 deliveries, which included three fours and seven sixes. Following his performance, Ishan Kishan and skipper Shreyas Iyer provided vital support, setting the stage for Tilak Verma and Shivam Dube to propel the team to a total of 211 runs for the loss of six wickets.

The partnership between Verma, who finished with an unbeaten score of 51 off 22 balls, and Dube, who contributed 27 runs off 15 balls, was particularly significant, with the duo adding 62 runs for the sixth wicket. This strong finish established a challenging target for Pakistan in the final match.

During the chase, the Pakistani team struggled initially and was reduced to 39 runs for the loss of three wickets. However, Hasan Nawaz put up a commendable fight, scoring 96 runs off 51 balls. Despite his efforts, Pakistan could only muster 192 runs for six wickets. Excellent bowling performances came from Axar Patel and Washington, who took two wickets each, while Shivam Dube also contributed by claiming two scalps, ensuring India’s victory and cementing their gold medal achievement at the Asian Games.
