Jadavpur MP Saayoni Ghosh Faces Backlash During Visit to Victim’s Family in Baruipur

The CSR Journal Magazine

Jadavpur Member of Parliament Saayoni Ghosh faced intense public anger on Tuesday during her visit to Baruipur to meet the family of a local victim. Arriving 48 hours after the incident, the MP was met with protests, slogans of “traitor” (Gaddar), and initial resistance from locals while trying to reach the grieving family.

Ghosh, who recently shifted political allegiances from the Trinamool Congress (TMC) to partner with the NCPI under the ruling NDA coalition, appeared in her familiar attire of a white saree with a blue border. Addressing the media amid the unrest, she demanded absolute eradication of the criminal elements involved in the case.

Demands for Strict Action Against Potential Crime Nexus

Speaking to reporters, Ghosh emphasized that superficial action would not suffice.

“We demand exemplary punishment. This isn’t just about a single isolated incident. If there is a larger nexus operating behind this, it must be thoroughly investigated and dismantled,” Ghosh stated.

She added that her conversation with the victim’s family strongly indicated the involvement of an organized crime racket.

Criticisms of Past Police Inaction

Reflecting on similar past incidents, the Jadavpur MP took a sharp jab at the previous administration’s law enforcement record. She alleged that under the former TMC government, the police often displayed a lack of urgency and apathy.

“There have been numerous past instances where victims’ belongings, like necklaces and bangles, were recovered from ponds, but missing persons were never found due to police reluctance,” Ghosh claimed. She insisted that the current administration must show zero complacency and ensure the perpetrators face the highest legal consequences.

Praises Current Administration and Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari

In a notable shift from her previous political stance, Ghosh praised Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari, describing him as “sensible.” She confirmed her plans to formally write to the Chief Minister regarding the Baruipur case and seek a personal meeting.

“We haven’t heard anything from the Chief Minister so far that would raise any doubts about the government’s intentions,” Ghosh remarked, adding that the current police force and local administration are acting with commendable promptness.
