Iran Emphasizes Historical Ties with India, Seeking to Maintain Peaceful Relations

The CSR Journal Magazine

In New Delhi, the representative of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Abdul Majid Hakeem Ilahi, spoke about the strong historical bonds between Iran and India, emphasizing former Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei’s commitment to strengthening this relationship. During an exclusive interview, Ilahi articulated that Iran seeks to avoid any conflicts with India, highlighting the deep-rooted connections between the two nations. He stated that the friendship spans over five millennia, intertwined through cultural, philosophical, and spiritual links.

Ilahi remarked, “The late Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Uzma Sayyid Ali Khamenei, wrote his first book about India, which consists of two volumes. This exemplifies his affection for the country.” He further added that Khamenei had often expressed a desire for enhanced collaboration between the two nations. He noted the supportive attitude of Khamenei’s family, particularly mentioning his son’s consistent advocacy for good relations with India, praising the Indian people’s qualities of loyalty, honesty, kindness, intelligence, and goodwill.

During the conversation, Ilahi affirmed that Iran is committed to maintaining amicable relations with India, stating, “We never want any kind of problems in our relationship and friendship.” He expressed confidence that the longstanding friendship would persist without conflict.

Ilahi also addressed claims made by U.S. President Donald Trump regarding Iran’s willingness to negotiate amid escalating tensions in West Asia. He dismissed these assertions, emphasizing Iran’s readiness to endure a prolonged conflict if necessary, stating, “We are prepared to continue the war, even for five years.” He firmly denied any current intentions for negotiation with the United States, pointing out that the U.S. initiated the current tensions while diplomatic discussions were ongoing.

He elaborated on Iran’s resilience, referring to the experiences gained during the prolonged Iran-Iraq War. “Iran is prepared to continue this war until the end, even for five years. We have knowledge from our previous conflicts,” he added. Ilahi depicted the widespread sentiment in Iran, stating that citizens are willing to support their country’s sovereignty, saying, “They are ready to give their blood, but they are not ready to give their land.”

Despite the adversities, Ilahi highlighted that Iran has aimed to prevent escalation in the region, making efforts to encourage its neighbors to seek peace and stability. “We have consistently tried to avoid any type of war in the region,” he noted, emphasizing the dire need for collaborative efforts to prevent further conflict.

The statements came against the backdrop of increasing security concerns in West Asia, particularly following the recent fatalities and ongoing clashes. The current conflict, which began on February 28, has seen confrontations between U.S.-Israeli forces and Iran.

In the wake of these developments, United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has expressed grave concern regarding the escalating crisis, labeling it a significant threat to global peace and security. He previously urged all parties to engage in dialogue to de-escalate tensions, underscoring that diplomacy remains an essential approach to resolving ongoing hostilities and mitigating civilian suffering in the region.
