The CSR Journal Magazine

Rajasthan Royals defeated Gujarat Titans by 6 runs in Match 9 of IPL 2026 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, defending 210 to restrict GT to 204/8 in 20 overs in a high-scoring contest. The result marked Rajasthan’s second win of the season, while Gujarat Titans remain winless so far.

Jurel, Jaiswal Lead RR To 210

Rajasthan Royals posted 210/6 after being put in to bat, driven by strong contributions across the top and middle order. Yashasvi Jaiswal set the tone with 55 off 36 balls, while Vaibhav Sooryavanshi added 31 off 18 in a brisk opening stand of 70 in 6.2 overs.

Dhruv Jurel anchored the innings with a commanding 75 off 42 balls, striking 5 fours and 5 sixes. He ensured continuity through the middle overs even as wickets fell at the other end. Riyan Parag made 8 off 4, while Shimron Hetmyer accelerated with 18 off 8 balls.

Sarfaraz Khan’s absence in this fixture meant the responsibility fell on the existing middle order, with Donovan Ferreira contributing 1 and Ravindra Jadeja remaining unbeaten on 7. Rajasthan Royals scored 69 in the powerplay and maintained a run rate above 10 throughout.

For Gujarat Titans, Kagiso Rabada (2/42) and Rashid Khan (1/39) were among the wickets, while Mohammed Siraj conceded 48 runs in his 4 overs.

Sudharsan Anchors GT Chase Amid Middle-Order Collapse

Gujarat Titans’ chase was led by Sai Sudharsan, who scored 73 off 44 balls, keeping the innings on track during the first half. He shared a 78-run opening stand with Kumar Kushagra, who made 18 off 14.

Jos Buttler contributed 26 off 14 balls, but wickets began to fall at regular intervals after the halfway mark. Glenn Phillips (3), Washington Sundar (4) and Rahul Tewatia (12) were dismissed quickly, slowing the momentum.

Rashid Khan added 24 off 16 balls and Kagiso Rabada remained unbeaten on 23 off 16, keeping Gujarat in the contest till the final over. However, the required rate climbed steadily as wickets fell in clusters.

Bishnoi’s Four-Wicket Spell Seals Tight Win

Rajasthan Royals’ bowlers held their nerve in the latter stages, with Ravi Bishnoi delivering the decisive spell of 4/41. He removed key middle-order batters, including Glenn Phillips, Washington Sundar and Rahul Tewatia, to break Gujarat’s momentum.

Tushar Deshpande (1/24) and Nandre Burger (1/29) provided support, while Riyan Parag chipped in with a wicket. Despite a late push from Rashid Khan and Rabada, Rajasthan managed to restrict Gujarat to 204/8.

Gujarat Titans needed 16 runs in the final over but fell short, handing Rajasthan Royals a narrow victory. Jurel was named Player of the Match for his 75, which proved crucial in setting up the total.

The win gives Rajasthan Royals 2 points in IPL 2026, while Gujarat Titans will look to regroup after falling short in a closely contested chase at home.
