The CSR Journal Magazine

India’s creative and design talent has notably showcased its capabilities at the WorldSkills Shanghai 2026 event. Young competitors from India have displayed impressive levels of skill and creativity, emerging from the country’s advancing skills ecosystem. Their accomplishments are particularly significant for the Media & Entertainment Skills Council (MESC), which has actively participated in various creative disciplines.

At the competition, India secured two Silver Medals and one Medal for Excellence, with participants Parth Vohra winning in Industrial Design Technology, Kovid Gangrade in Digital Interactive Media Design, and Rajeeb Lochan Chand achieving a Medal for Excellence in Graphic Design Technology. This success positions India prominently among the top competitors at the 48th WorldSkills Competition, held in Shanghai from 22 to 27 September 2026.

The event featured over 1,400 competitors from more than 90 countries and regions across 64 skills. India fielded its largest-ever contingent of 70 competitors across an impressive 63 skills and achieved an overall ranking of 10th, collecting a total of six Silver Medals and 20 Medals for Excellence.

Preparation and Guidance for Competitors

Through the initiative of IndiaSkills 2025, MESC facilitated participation across four major categories: Graphic Design Technology, 3D Digital Game Art, Industrial Design Technology, and Digital Interactive Media Design. The selection process resulted in the identification of four candidates—Parth Vohra, Kovid Gangrade, Harsh Pawar, and Rajeeb Lochan Chand—who represented India in Shanghai.

Parth Vohra’s journey to success in Industrial Design Technology was supported by Mr. Anuj Prasad, an expert with over three decades of industry experience. Prasad’s mentorship included insights into product design and preparation tailored for international competition. Vohra, currently working as an Industrial Designer at Luxor Writing Instruments in Noida, credits his early interests in art and design as crucial in his journey toward this achievement.

Kovid Gangrade’s path in Digital Interactive Media Design was shaped by his experiences at the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) Mumbai. Under the guidance of Dr. Manisha Mohan, Kovid was inspired to pursue this category following his sister’s past success. His preparation involved a robust network of mentors, deepening his understanding of design, technology, and user interaction.

Significance of the Achievements

Rajeeb Lochan Chand’s recognition in Graphic Design Technology reflects his dedication and the extensive support he received throughout his preparation. Mentored by industry veteran Mr. Anthony Lopez and assisted by other professionals, Rajeeb gained insights vital for his performance at the prestigious competition.

The success of these competitors serves as a testament to the evolving landscape of India’s creative economy. MESC, operating under the Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, aims to align skills with industry standards and provide a foundation for professional opportunities tailored to the creative sector.

The WorldSkills Shanghai 2026 event not only highlighted India’s capabilities but also established a platform for international recognition. With its performance, India demonstrated a commitment to nurturing talent and fostering a competitive spirit on the global stage, paving the way for future opportunities in the creative realm.
