IIM Ahmedabad Achieves Record for International Placements With Rs 2.31 Cr Offer

The CSR Journal Magazine

IIM Ahmedabad has achieved a historic milestone in its international placements, reporting an all-time high Maximum Earning Potential (MEP) of USD 243,000, which is approximately Rs 2.31 crore, for students of its Post Graduate Programme (PGP). This achievement marks the highest international MEP since the commencement of the Indian Placement Reporting Standards (IPRS) system in 2011, as noted by The Times of India.

This year’s figure greatly surpasses the previous record of USD 192,581 set in 2014. Notably, the highest-paying international position was for a business development role within the information technology sector, located in Dubai. The institute specified that the MEP calculation encompasses the annual cash salary, one-off cash payments, and the total assured cash component.

IT Sector: Leading Provider of Overseas Roles

This year, the IT sector has emerged as the most lucrative area for overseas placements, breaking the previous hold of the BFSI and consulting sectors. Out of 392 students who took part in the placement process, six accepted international job offers. Among these positions, four were in Dubai while one each was in Hong Kong and Japan.

Three of the six international offers originated from business conglomerates, while the sectors of BFSI, IT, and retail provided one offer each. This shift indicates a changing landscape in international job markets linked to business school graduates.

The increased interest in IT roles suggests a rising demand for talent in technology-driven industries, especially in global hubs like Dubai. The shift highlights the evolving nature of international recruitment processes and student preferences in choosing career paths.

Strong Domestic Placement Trends Reported

However, consulting firms led in terms of the total number of offers made, providing 155 offers compared to 82 from the BFSI sector. IT and business conglomerates each contributed 34 offers, while consumer services accounted for 15 offerings. This robust domestic placement scenario reinforces the institute’s reputation for nurturing graduates who are highly sought after across various industries.

In total, 182 companies participated in the placement process. They covered approximately 267 roles, which showcases the diverse opportunities available to graduates. Such participation from various industries indicates a healthy job market for management graduates.

Increase in Business Development Roles Noted

The placement report has highlighted a significant increase in business development roles within the sector. After seeing only two to five offers annually between 2022 and 2024, the number of offers surged to 27 this year. This trend points to a growing recognition of the importance of business development functions within organisations.

Accenture Strategy emerged as the top recruiter, extending the highest number of offers, including pre-placement offers, with a total of 36. BCG was not far behind, providing 33 offers, followed by FinIQ Consulting with 24 and McKinsey & Company with 21 offers.

Additionally, more than 50 new companies participated in both the lateral and final placement processes this year. It demonstrated an expanding interest in hiring graduates from IIM Ahmedabad. This influx of new employers enhances the prospects for students in a competitive job market.
