‘I Apologise’: Trump Ally Laura Loomer Issues Apology for ‘Anti-India’ Social Media Posts

The CSR Journal Magazine

Laura Loomer, an American far-right activist and vocal supporter of former President Donald Trump, publicly apologized for her past social media comments deemed “anti-India” during her appearance at the India Today conclave on Saturday. Loomer’s earlier posts on the social media platform X had caught the attention of netizens, leading to a significant backlash over perceived racist and offensive remarks.

In response to inquiries regarding the controversy, Loomer admitted, “I should not have said some of the things I wrote in the tweets.” She expressed regret for any offense caused, stating, “I apologise if my remarks offended people.” Currently in India, Loomer is set to spend several days traveling across various regions of the country.

Stance on H-1B Visa Program Remains Firm

Despite her apologies regarding the earlier comments, Loomer maintained that she would not retract her criticism of the H-1B visa program in the United States. She stressed the importance of prioritizing American interests, asserting, “My job is to stand up for American interests. Our immigration and labor laws have been exploited and abused. I will continue to fight for American workers who are struggling to find employment.”

The uproar surrounding Loomer began shortly after her arrival in India for the conclave, as users began sharing her previous posts which featured negative stereotypes and unflattering comments about Indian culture, including issues related to hygiene and intelligence. These remarks resurfaced and gained traction online, amplifying the criticism against her.

Clarifications on Hostility Towards India

During her remarks, Loomer clarified that she does not harbor animosity towards India or its Hindu population, stating, “I do not have hatred in my heart for India or for Hindu people.” She characterized her previous comments as stemming from a sense of loyalty and love towards her own country rather than from a place of hatred. “I do not come from a place of hatred; my comments come from a place of love for my people and my country,” she mentioned.

In conjunction with her comments on India, Loomer also voiced strong opinions about Pakistan, accusing the nation of facilitating extremist networks. “Pakistan’s biggest export to the world is Islamic terrorism, and I don’t believe the US should be cosying up to the Pakistani government at all,” she claimed. Further describing Pakistan, she stated, “Pakistan operates as an openly jihadist and pro-Sharia state,” adding that many international Islamist terror attacks often have links back to Pakistan.
