In response to the COVID-19 pandemic across India, HCL Foundation (HCLF) has come forward with its partner to support the wellbeing of people. The organization’s CSR support is aimed at complementing the State’s efforts to increase and enhance the healthcare facilities for elderly people.
The Mobile Healthcare Unit (MHU) initiative was inaugurated at HCL Lucknow IT City Campus by HCLF in association with HelpAge India (NGO). The initiative includes MHU support in (Lucknow & Madurai) and a 24X7 helpline (Lucknow & Chennai) which focuses and deals with issues faced by elderly people but not limited to them only. The MHU was inaugurated by Rishi Kumar, AVP HCL Technologies, Mr. A.K. Singh, Director & State Head – HelpAge India in the gracious presence of project heads from HCL Lucknow and HCL Foundation representatives.
HCL has supported to provide health care services in Lucknow through its mobile heath care unit. Besides, support to the community through the newly launched helpline, intervention will also be provided which includes rescue cases, legal awareness program, Digital Literacy activities etc. Each Mobile Health Care Unit is designed to provide primary healthcare services (preventive & curative) for the poor at their doorsteps who are economically, socially backward and mostly untouched by healthcare system.
HelpAge India, operating since the last four decades, is a non-government organization working for the cause and care of disadvantaged older persons. One of the important programmes of the organisation is Mobile Healthcare Unit (MHU). Services through MHU includes- Free treatment, free medicine, basic diagnostics, home visits by doctor (in case of bedridden patients/patients unable to reach to MHU), counselling for patients, elders, family members and caretakers.
The mobile healthcare unit shall facilitate community awareness on health-related issues, hygiene, elderly rights, referral linkage with local health providers, linkage with govt. schemes and programs, preventive health awareness programmes with IEC materials, sanitation awareness programmes and linkages for cataract surgeries. Each Mobile Healthcare Unit has a doctor, a pharmacist, and a social worker. The MHU will visit two sites in Lucknow every day and 10 overall from Monday to Friday and repeat the same locations on weekly basis.
