The Gujarat Police have commenced a significant initiative aimed at enhancing road safety and enforcing traffic regulations. Under the direction of State Police Chief Gyanendra Singh Malik, this statewide operation targets vehicles without number plates, those with altered plates, or improperly displayed plates. This campaign is scheduled to run from September 1 to October 14, 2026.

In the initial phase of the drive, which spans from September 1 to September 20, authorities recorded 18,014 violations across the state. A total of 4,187 vehicles have been impounded for issues related to number plates during this period. The operation reflects a concerted effort by the police to uphold traffic laws and improve safety on the roads.

Details of Violations and Enforcement Actions

Throughout the drive, the police have collected fines totalling approximately Rs. 58.56 lakh for various traffic violations. The enforcement has been rigorous, with attention given to different districts and cities, showcasing the commitment of law enforcement to maintain public safety. Notable instances include 1,786 cases logged in Surat City, 1,959 in Vadodara City, and 1,363 in Banaskantha.

The stringent measures reflect the state’s determination to clamp down on non-compliance with traffic regulations. The drive aims to ensure that all vehicles adhere to the standards set for number plates, as these are crucial for identification and safety purposes.

Traffic police teams have been actively conducting checks in all districts and municipalities. This proactive approach is intended to deter violations and reassure the public of their safety on the roads.

Public Appeal and Further Measures

State Traffic Branch Superintendent of Police V. Sahitya has made an appeal to vehicle owners and drivers, urging them to use clearly visible number plates that comply with existing regulations. He highlighted that number plates featuring ornate fonts, concealed numbers, or overly decorative designs could result in legal penalties.

The police department has made it clear that this drive is not just a temporary measure but a sustained effort to ensure compliance with traffic laws. The objective is to instil a sense of responsibility among road users regarding the importance of proper vehicle identification.

As the campaign progresses, the authorities have reiterated their commitment to public safety and law enforcement. They plan to continue checking for violations rigorously, ensuring that all vehicles on the roads meet the necessary standards for number plate visibility and compliance.
