Kerala Teen Found Strangled, Two Arrested and One Detained

The CSR Journal Magazine

A 17-year-old boy’s body was discovered stuffed in a sack in a vacant plot in Thiruvananthapuram, leading to the arrest of two individuals, including an 18-year-old woman, and the detention of a teenage boy. The police reported the incident on Tuesday, revealing that the third suspect, a 22-year-old man named Umar, has a history of criminal activity and is currently facing proceedings under the Kerala Anti-Social Activities (Prevention) Act (KAAPA).

According to police statements, the teenage suspects were known to the victim. Allegedly, the couple had lured the boy to a secluded area, where he was subsequently killed. The victim was reported missing from his home on Sunday afternoon, prompting concern from his family.

Investigations indicated that the minor suspect has confessed to the murder. The victim’s father expressed serious concerns regarding the circumstances of his son’s death, suggesting that his son was not the intended target. He claimed that his son was killed after he refused to assist the accused in bringing another boy to the location.

Investigation Developments

The victim’s parents reported him missing after he did not return home, leading to police inquiries that included questioning his friends. The initial examination of the body suggested that strangulation was the cause of death. The father stated that the juvenile suspect had contacted his son using the phone of the 18-year-old woman, instructing him to meet at a specific location.

Upon arrival, the victim was reportedly asked to bring his friend to the scene. The father alleged that the group was actually searching for the other boy, and his son was murdered when he declined to comply with their demands. He also raised doubts about the claim that the 17-year-old acted alone in committing the murder.

The victim’s father speculated that the juvenile might have taken the blame to protect others involved, as he would face a lighter punishment due to his age. He questioned how a 17-year-old could execute such a crime independently and expressed concerns over the initial police handling of the case.

Concerns Over Police Procedures

The father alleged that the police did not conduct a thorough interrogation of the juvenile when he was first detained. Instead of continuing the questioning, the authorities reportedly allowed him to leave with his father, instructing them to return the following morning.

The father believes that a more rigorous investigation at that time could have been pivotal in uncovering the truth sooner. He noted that while his son and the juvenile suspect attended the same school, they were not particularly close friends. The father emphasised that his son had no legitimate reason to visit the secluded area unless specifically directed to do so.

Expressing his desire for a comprehensive investigation, the victim’s father insisted that the case should not be treated as an ordinary murder. He called for the entire conspiracy behind his son’s death to be thoroughly examined. Reports suggest that the juvenile suspect sought Umar’s assistance in disposing of the body, while the woman allegedly provided guidance on how to eliminate evidence.
