Government schools to get AI learning with CSR support in two states, Bihar to change diet for obese students

In a latest development, Artificial Intelligence or AI is being made a part of the curriculum to transform Government school education in India. Two Indian states – Andhra Pradesh and Rajasthan are planning to introduce AI-based learning at school level.

While Artificial Intelligence (AI) will be made part of the curriculum for secondary school students in Andhra Pradesh, Rajasthan has launched an initiative named Vidya Samiksha Kendra (VSK) to transform school education system in the state.

Meanwhile, Bihar’s Health and Education departments are focusing on revising the mid-day meal menu for obese students in collaboration with UNICEF.

AI to be made part of school curriculum Andhra Pradesh

Artificial Intelligence (AI) will soon be made part of the school curriculum for students studying between classes seven and nine in government secondary schools across Andhra Pradesh. This initiative has been launched by the Government of Andhra Pradesh in collaboration with Quest Alliance, a not-for-profit trust that equips young people with 21st century skills by enabling self-learning.

The AI curriculum is currently being implemented in Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas and Andhra Pradesh Model Schools of Srikakulam, Vizianagaram and Visakhapatnam Districts on trial basis, which will be expanded across the state later.

In February this year, a MoU was signed for 3 years between Samagra Shiksha Abhiyaan (SSA), Andhra Pradesh, Quest Alliance and Leadership for Equity (LFE) under Amazon’s Future Engineer program (AFE) to create and roll out a Future Skills curriculum for the State. The initiative aims to deepen AI understanding through foundational knowledge and hands-on experience, preparing students for future tech-driven careers. The curriculum is aimed to empower students to not only learn the concepts and applications of AI, but to also develop critical thinking and analytical skills among them.

Rajasthan to use AI and data analytics to enhance education

Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma has launched an initiative named Vidya Samiksha Kendra (VSK) to transform school education system in the state in collaboration with Telecommunications Consultants India Limited (TCIL) and ConveGenius.

The new centre will use Artificial Intelligence (AI) and data analytics to improve school governance, track student progress, and enhance teaching across the state. As per an official announcement, the VSK will track essential data from 68,000 government schools, offering real-time insights into student enrolment, attendance, and academic performance.

This technology-driven approach is aimed to impact 81 lakh students, 4 lakh teachers, and 1.28 lakh education staff across 50 districts of Rajasthan. The VSK will utilise AI chatbots to provide personalised learning for students, provide real-time support to teachers, and equip administrators with data for informed decision-making.

“Vidya Samiksha Kendra is a step towards a developed, self-reliant India. By prioritizing technology and data-driven implementation of National Education Policy 2020, we are ensuring that every child in Rajasthan has the chance to achieve their potential,” Rajasthan CM Bhajan Lal Sharma expressed.

Bihar may revise mid-day meal menu for obese students

Meanwhile, the Health and Education departments in Bihar have reportedly decided to focus on revising the mid-day meal menu for government school students who are obese. This is being done in collaboration with United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF).

As per reports, overweight children were found in higher numbers as compared to underweight ones after a Body Mass Index (BMI) check was randomly conducted. These tests were done in government schools across several districts of the state including Muzaffarpur and Purnia.

A comparative study will be conducted to check the nutritional levels of students in different districts of the state. Every child attending government schools will have to appear for BMI test, which will be done in collaboration with the state Health Department and UNICEF. Mid-day meal menu will be revised depending upon the results of the test. Locally available green vegetables will be included in the mid-day meal along with the regular menu in order to ensure nutrition and prevent weight gain among children.
