Pune Man Shot Dead After Dispute Over Bar Bill; Three Suspects On The Run

The CSR Journal Magazine

A 33-year-old man was shot dead in the Late Ali-Ambedkar Nagar area of Shirur town, Pune district, on the morning of September 19, 2026. The victim, identified as Hari alias Harish Dadasaheb Gangawane, was attacked at approximately 6.30 am. Local law enforcement suspects that the assault involved three male perpetrators, who have since gone into hiding.

Background of the Dispute

Authorities have reported that the conflict surrounding Gangawane’s death appears to stem from a previous disagreement over a bar bill. Approximately six months prior to the shooting, Gangawane allegedly had a physical altercation with two of the suspects, Rohit Ravindra Sonawane and Aniket Vilas Gavhane, concerning payments at his beer bar.

On the night preceding the incident, a confrontation occurred between Gangawane and the three suspects during a Ganesh festival event near Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Chowk. After a heated argument, the situation was diffused by police patrolling the area along with festival volunteers, although tensions resurfaced the following morning.

On the day of the shooting, Gangawane, along with friends Ajinkya Jagtap and Rahul Mire, visited the home of Sagar Kamble, Sonawane’s maternal uncle, to discuss the prior clash. Kamble is said to have cautioned Sonawane against further conflicts, indicating an awareness of the animosity festering between the parties involved.

Details of the Shooting Incident

As Gangawane and his companions departed on a motorcycle, it is suspected that Sonawane, Gavhane, and Aditya Pintu Pawar were lying in wait for them. Police investigations suggest that the assailants were armed with country-made firearms and opened fire as Gangawane passed by. Reports indicate that Sonawane discharged two shots, with one bullet penetrating Gangawane’s neck and the second grazing his arm.

Following the attack, Gangawane fell from his motorcycle. The suspects allegedly fired another shot towards Mire and also aimed their weapons into the air to intimidate any nearby witnesses before fleeing the scene on a motorcycle. Gangawane was subsequently transported to a private medical facility for urgent treatment but tragically succumbed to his injuries while being transferred to Pune for additional care.

Law enforcement officials, including Senior Police Officers such as Deputy Superintendent of Police Ravindra Bhosale and Local Crime Branch Inspector Pramod Kshirsagar, promptly arrived at the location after the shooting incident. A forensic team was dispatched to gather evidence, including cartridges found in the vicinity. CCTV footage from the area is currently under review to help identify the suspects and clarify the chain of events.

Ongoing Police Investigation

As of now, no arrests have been made, and police are actively seeking Sonawane, Gavhane, and Pawar. Pune Rural Superintendent of Police Sandeep Singh Gill stated that three separate police teams have been mobilised to locate the fugitives and ascertain the precise motivation behind the killing. Investigators hope to unveil further insights once the suspects are apprehended.

The tragic nature of this incident showcases key social issues surrounding conflict resolution in a densely populated urban setting, emphasising the urgent need for effective measures to prevent such violent escalations in the future.
