Esha Singh Achieves Gold in Munich World Cup, Sets New 25m Pistol World Record

The CSR Journal Magazine

Esha Singh’s remarkable performance at the ISSF World Cup in Munich has culminated in her winning a gold medal in the women’s 25m pistol competition. The 21-year-old shooter set a world record by scoring 43 hits out of 50 in the final, marking a significant achievement at both senior and junior levels. This victory not only highlights her outstanding skill but also establishes her as a formidable competitor in the shooting sport.

In a demanding final that featured seasoned competitors, including reigning Olympic champion Yang Ji-in, Esha displayed exceptional composure throughout the elimination rounds. She consistently outperformed her rivals, ultimately securing victory and becoming India’s first individual shooting medal winner of the ISSF World Cup season, which encompasses rifle, pistol, and shotgun events.

Esha Singh’s Performance in the Final Round

Entering the final after placing fifth in the qualification round with a total score of 587-19x, Esha began the medal round by showcasing her precision shooting. She recorded scores of 293 in precision and 294 in rapid fire, allowing her to maintain a competitive edge over her peers. As the final progressed, the Indian shooter delivered an impeccable performance by opening with three consecutive perfect series, establishing an early lead that proved difficult for her opponents to overcome.

While several renowned shooters struggled with their performance amidst the pressure, Esha remarkably maintained her focus. Her final tally of 43 hits not only earned her gold but also set a new world record for women’s 25m pistol shooting, additional to her already impressive array of achievements.

The level of competition added to the significance of her accomplishment. Yang Ji-in, who had topped qualification with an impressive score of 592-28x, found it challenging to replicate this success in the finals, ultimately finishing in fifth place after faltering with 13 missed shots out of 35.

Impact on Indian Shooting and Upcoming Events

Esha Singh’s victory in Munich has further bolstered India’s standing in the international shooting arena, continuing a positive trend witnessed throughout the current ISSF World Cup season. Earlier performances saw Mukesh Nelavalli and Palak Gulia winning gold in the 10m air pistol mixed team event in Granada, while Vivaan Kapoor and Neeru Dhanda earned bronze in the mixed team trap event in Almaty. Esha’s win now marks the first individual gold medal for India this season.

Despite her success, not all Indian competitors fared as well in Munich. Notably, Olympic medallist Manu Bhaker narrowly missed the final, finishing twelfth in qualification with a score of 582-19x, while veteran shooter Rahi Sarnobat placed 14th. Esha Singh is now set to continue her campaign at the World Cup with the women’s 10m air pistol event, where she will compete alongside Bhaker.

At the young age of 21, Esha already possesses an impressive collection of accolades, including medals from Asian Games and World Cups. With her recent world record achievement, her performance in Munich is poised to become a pivotal moment in her burgeoning career as one of India’s rising shooting stars.
