“Election Commission broke Mamata Banerjee’s syndicate”: BJP’s Rahul Sinha

The CSR Journal Magazine

BJP leader Rahul Sinha expressed his support for the recent significant bureaucratic changes made by the Election Commission of India in West Bengal. Sinha asserted that this initiative is crucial for ensuring a transparent electoral process and claimed it has effectively dismantled a “syndicate” allegedly orchestrated by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

He accused Banerjee of incorporating loyalists into the state police, aiming to incite communal tensions; however, he noted that both Hindu and Muslim communities have displayed restraint amidst these provocations. Sinha remarked, “Mamata Banerjee herself wants riots to happen in West Bengal, and that is why she is trying to incite Hindus and Muslims.” He went on to commend the Election Commission for appointing competent officers to maintain law and order during the elections.

Key Appointments in Police Reshuffle

In an extensive reorganization within the police department, Siddh Nath Gupta has been appointed as the Director General of Police, succeeding Peeyush Pandey. The Election Commission has also designated Ajay Kumar Nand as the new Commissioner of Kolkata Police, alongside Natarajan Ramesh Babu, who will take on the role of Director General for Correctional Services. Additionally, Ajay Mukund Ranade has been appointed as Additional Director General and Inspector General for Law and Order. The Commission has outlined a strategic array of officer deployments across various districts to facilitate effective election management.

Among the notable appointments are Surya Pratap Yadav, designated as Superintendent of Police for Barasat, and Rakesh Singh, assigned as the Superintendent of Police for Coochbehar. Other officers include Kumar Sunny Raj as Superintendent of Police for Birbhum, Ishani Paul as Superintendent of Police for Islampur, Pushpa as Superintendent of Police for Hooghly Rural, and Jaspreet Singh as Superintendent of Police for Diamond Harbour. The notification specifies Yeilwad Shrikant Jagannathrao as Deputy Commissioner for Central Division, Kolkata, and Papiya Sultana as Superintendent of Police for Paschim Medinipur, among various other appointments made to ensure a smooth electoral process.

Upcoming Election Schedule in West Bengal

The West Bengal assembly elections are set to occur in two phases, with polling taking place on April 23 and April 29. The vote counting for both phases is scheduled for May 4, and the election process is expected to be concluded by May 6. These preparations and restructuring efforts by the Election Commission are viewed as essential elements in promoting a fair electoral climate within the state in light of recent tensions.
