Dino Morea Joins Mumbai Police Investigation Into Mithi River Desilting Scam

The CSR Journal Magazine

Actor Dino Morea has appeared before the Mumbai Police Commissioner’s Office as part of an ongoing investigation into the alleged Mithi River desilting scam. The Mumbai Police’s Economic Offences Wing (EOW) is leading this probe, which focuses on suspected financial misconduct involving public funds intended for flood control and drainage maintenance in the city.

The inquiry into Morea’s potential involvement arises from his alleged connections with contractors and officials implicated in the embezzlement of these funds. Morea’s appearance marks a significant step in the investigation, which has garnered widespread attention due to the serious allegations involved.

Background of the Mithi River Project

The Mithi River desilting initiative was launched by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) and other civic agencies in response to the devastating floods that struck Mumbai in 2005. The objective of this project was to enhance flood management by ensuring that the river was properly maintained and free of debris.

However, investigations conducted over the years have reportedly revealed discrepancies between the desilting work that was reported and what was actually performed. These discrepancies have raised serious questions about the management of the funds allocated for this crucial project and have led to ongoing scrutiny of various stakeholders involved.

In 2025, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) executed raids at fifteen locations across Mumbai and Kochi, including Morea’s residence. These raids aimed to uncover potential links between the contractors and the officials under investigation, and were executed under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). The agency’s goal was to trace the alleged financial misconduct associated with this case.

Morea Under Additional Investigation Related to Disha Salian Case

Advocate Nilesh Ojha, representing Salian’s family, disclosed that the statement includes names of various individuals, alleging involvement in the case. Among those named are more than one notable figure, including Morea, actor Sooraj Pancholi, and several others connected to the context of the allegations.

Satish Salian has expressed a strong desire for justice regarding the death of his daughter, emphasising that those responsible should face severe legal consequences. He further stated that he provided authorities with detailed information about the individuals allegedly involved in the heinous crime, reiterating his commitment to seeking justice.

Disha Salian’s body was discovered on June 8, 2020, and her death was initially treated as an Accidental Death Report (ADR). She was found just days before the high-profile death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput, which led to a nationwide investigation and significant public debate regarding the circumstances surrounding both cases. The relationships among these events remain under examination as authorities continue their inquiries.
