Security has been significantly stepped up across Delhi ahead of the BRICS summit, with a four-layer security cordon planned for Russian President Vladimir Putin during his stay at the Maurya Hotel.

Special arrangements have also been made for Chinese President Xi Jinping, with senior Delhi Police officers, commandos, paramilitary personnel and security teams from both countries deployed as the capital prepares to host foreign heads of state.

Four-Layer Security Cordon For Putin

The Maurya Hotel, where Putin is expected to stay, has been placed under an extensive security cover, with four separate layers assigned to protect the Russian President.

The innermost layer will comprise the CPT, or Close Protection Team, which will provide Putin’s immediate security and remain with him throughout his movements.

Senior Delhi Police officers will form the second, or inner, security ring. The third layer will comprise Delhi Police commandos and personnel from paramilitary forces.

The outermost security cordon will be managed by local police, with a heavy deployment planned outside the hotel and across the surrounding area.

Russian President To Be Accompanied By Own Security Team

Putin will also travel with his own security personnel, with around 25 to 30 commandos and other security staff expected to accompany him and maintain a close protective cordon during his movements.

Senior officers have been assigned to supervise security at hotels accommodating visiting heads of state.

Overall security at these hotels will be commanded by senior officers of the rank of Special Commissioner of Police, Crime.

Special Security Teams For Putin And Xi

Putin is expected to arrive in Delhi on September 11, while Xi is scheduled to reach the capital on September 12.

After landing at Palam Air Force Station, the two leaders are expected to travel to the Maurya and Taj hotels respectively.

Security teams from Russia and China have already arrived in Delhi and are overseeing arrangements at the hotels designated for their respective heads of state.

These foreign security teams are equipped with advanced weapons and other security equipment. Personnel have been deployed across multiple levels of the hotels, from the floors where the leaders are expected to stay to the rooftops and ground areas.

The Delhi Police Special Cell has been given responsibility for the Chinese President’s security.

At the hotel where Putin is expected to stay, one Additional DCP and two ACPs have been deployed across different shifts.

Hotel Staff Undergo Multi-Level Verification

Security agencies have carried out verification of every employee working at the hotels concerned as part of the preparations.

Apart from checking employees’ records in Delhi, authorities have also conducted verification in their respective home states.

Bharat Mandapam Security Under Special Command

Security arrangements at Bharat Mandapam, the summit venue, will be led by the Special Commissioner of Police, Special Cell.

In addition to the deployment of Delhi Police personnel, commandos and paramilitary forces, authorities will maintain heightened surveillance along routes connecting the airport, hotels and the summit venue.

To coordinate the arrangements, Delhi has been divided into multiple security sectors, each placed under the supervision of an officer of DCP or Additional DCP rank.

Routes Finalised For Leaders’ Motorcades

The motorcades of Putin and Xi are expected to be among the largest during the summit.

Delhi Traffic Police has finalised the routes to be used by visiting leaders travelling to and from Bharat Mandapam, while several route rehearsals have been conducted to review security and traffic arrangements.

Security and traffic personnel have been placed on high alert along the routes from the airport to the hotels and between the hotels and Bharat Mandapam as Delhi prepares for the arrival of the foreign leaders.
