Delhi NCR Sees Rain, Thunderstorms; Safety Advisories Issued

The CSR Journal Magazine

Several regions in Delhi-NCR received rainfall on Wednesday, marking a significant alteration in the weather as temperatures began to drop. Reports indicated steady rain in areas including Indira Bhawan, while Moolchand Metro Station witnessed commuters navigating through varying intensities of showers. Rain and gusty winds were notably observed in the Palam area, highlighting extensive weather activity across the region.

Power Disruptions and Safety Advisory Issued

According to reports, high-Speed winds in the capital led to power outages and disturbances in various locations. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued crucial advisories, advising residents to stay indoors and steer clear of vulnerable structures. Individuals were warned to avoid proximity to windows, electrical poles, and overhead power lines, along with securing loose items to avert potential hazards.

Guidelines for Farmers and Motorists During Weather Alert

Farmers received recommendations to temporarily cease outdoor activities and relocate livestock to safer zones. Motorists caught in adverse weather conditions were instructed to safely pull over and remain inside their vehicles rather than attempting to navigate through strong winds and debris.

Forecast for Continued Rain and Thunderstorms

The India Meteorological Department anticipates ongoing light rain, thunderstorms, and gusty winds until March 20. Wind speeds are expected to range between 20 to 30 kmph, with gusts potentially reaching up to 40 to 50 kmph, particularly in the afternoon and evening. This change in weather is linked to active western disturbances and cyclonic circulations influencing northwest India, resulting in heightened thunderstorm activity across the area.

Temperature Fluctuations Due to Rainfall

The recent rainfall has contributed to a noticeable decline in temperatures, with forecasts suggesting a drop in maximum temperatures from approximately 32 to 34°C to between 26 and 28°C over the next couple of days, which would remain below the seasonal average. Minimum temperatures are projected to remain between 16°C and 20°C. This brief spell of rain has brought relief from the early summer heat and has improved overall weather conditions in the city.

Precautionary Measures Recommended by IMD

The IMD has urged residents to take appropriate precautions during thunderstorms, advising them to avoid waterlogged areas and stay away from trees while driving cautiously. These measures are essential to ensure safety in light of the unpredictable weather patterns expected over the coming days.
