In a shocking incident in Chhawla, southwest Delhi, a 35-year-old man was arrested for allegedly murdering his 44-year-old live-in partner and leaving her body in a car because he was too intoxicated to dispose of it properly. Police said the accused, identified as Virendra Singh, returned to his home and went to sleep after abandoning the body.
Neighbours Spot the Body
The gruesome discovery was made on the morning of November 26 when a neighbour noticed the woman’s body on the rear seat of a parked Maruti Swift. The neighbour assumed the couple was married and immediately alerted the Chhawla police. Authorities said Virendra was asleep in the house when the PCR team arrived.
Quarrel Over Drinking Escalates
Police said that on the night of November 25, the couple had been drinking together. Radha, the victim, reportedly asked Virendra to stop drinking, which led to a heated argument. During the fight, Virendra allegedly pinned Radha to the bed and throttled her with his elbow.
DCP (Dwarka) Ankit Singh said, “They had a fight… There were some marks and abrasions on the face of the deceased. When asked, the accused said he killed the woman by strangulating her.”
Attempt to Dispose of the Body
After the killing, Virendra allegedly called two friends, a man and a woman, who helped him place Radha’s body in the car. The friends left shortly afterward. Due to his intoxication, Virendra was unable to drive the car beyond about 100 metres and returned home. Police said,
“Virender wanted to dispose of the body, but was so drunk that he chose to leave the body in the car and returned to his room to sleep.”
Background and Property Disputes
Virendra, who is married with children, had been living with Radha for the past two years. Radha had previously lost her husband to cancer, and her father, who had moved to the US, had also passed away.
The couple had sold Radha’s house in Palam, and Virendra used the proceeds to purchase a three-storey house in Chhawla under his name. Another Rs 21 lakh from the sale reportedly remained with him, which frequently caused arguments between the two.
A senior police officer said, “Virendra, who is married and has children, had been living with the deceased for the past two years. The woman earlier owned a house in Palam, which they sold, and using that money, Virendra purchased a three-storey house in Chhawla under his own name in August.”
Murder Case Registered, Investigation Ongoing
The police have formally registered a murder case against Virendra and arrested him. Authorities are also attempting to trace and apprehend his two associates who allegedly helped him move the body.
