Delhi High Court Issues Notice Regarding Police Protection for Lawrence Bishnoi’s Lawyer

The CSR Journal Magazine

The Delhi High Court has issued a notice to the Delhi Police in response to a petition filed by the lawyer representing Lawrence Bishnoi. The advocate is seeking police protection for himself and his family, citing a recent incident where gunfire targeted his vehicle. This incident occurred in February in the Kashmiri Gate area. It has been alleged that gangster Rohit Godara issued life threats against the lawyer.

Hearing Scheduled for Friday

Justice Saurabh Bannerjee has set a hearing for the matter, scheduled for Friday at 12 PM. Additional Standing Counsel Rahul Tyagi appeared on behalf of the Delhi Police for the proceedings. The lawyer, Deepak Nanda, has filed the petition with the assistance of advocate Nishant Rana, emphasizing the need for immediate police protection.

Request for Immediate Protection

The petition requests that the Police provide adequate and prompt protection for the lawyer and his family, which includes five other members, two of whom are children. It also calls for the immediate arrest of the individuals responsible for the firing incident. The petitioner explained that he was returning home with his associates when the shooting occurred, resulting in injuries to an associate named Sandeep, who was struck by two bullets.

Ongoing Investigation

A formal complaint has been lodged, leading to the registration of an FIR at the Kashmere Gate Police Station. An investigation into the matter is currently underway. The petitioner reported receiving a threatening call from an unknown number around 12:45 AM on February 24-25 while he was with Police officials. Due to the ongoing proceedings, he was unable to take the call.

Threatening Calls Received

The lawyer received a second call from the same international number at approximately 12:35 PM on February 25, 2026. He answered this call, during which the individual identified himself as Rohit Godara, explicitly threatening the lawyer’s life and that of his family members. The threats were described as calculating and designed to instill fear in the lawyer and his relatives.

Public Responsibility for the Incident

Subsequent to the threats, individuals identified as Naveen alias Naveen Boxer and Rahul alias Rahul Fatehpuri, associated with the Rohit Godara Gang, have publicly claimed responsibility for the shooting through a Facebook post that has circulated widely. This declaration has been interpreted as a challenge to the law enforcement authorities.

Previous Requests for Protection

The petitioner had previously submitted a formal written request to the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Special Cell, on February 10, 2026, seeking permission to bulletproof his vehicle due to heightened threat perception from a 7.62 mm SLR Rifle. As of now, he has not received any response to that request.
