Delhi Couple Arrested for Fraudulently Selling the Same Flat Multiple Times

The CSR Journal Magazine

The Dwarka South Police apprehended a husband and wife in connection with a multi-victim property fraud case. The couple, Naresh Kumar Sikri, aged 57, and Sharda Sikri, aged 55, both residing in Dwarka Sector-9, are accused of selling a single apartment to numerous unsuspecting buyers. Through this scheme, they reportedly amassed significant amounts of money via deceptive contracts.

Police Action Following Surveillance

Following extensive technical surveillance and intelligence gathering, the authorities tracked the couple to Greater Noida, where their arrest was executed. The case is linked to two incidents of cheating registered in 2024 at the Dwarka South police station, specifically under FIR No. 11/2024 and FIR No. 346/2024. Reports indicate that multiple complainants alleged that the couple accepted payments for the sale of an apartment but failed to formalize the sale deeds and subsequently vanished.

Investigation Findings

Further investigation revealed that the property in question was mortgaged, and the couple allegedly engaged in the deceitful practice of selling it multiple times to secure funds, reportedly accumulating between ₹2 to ₹2.5 crore. Sharda Sikri was previously declared a Proclaimed Offender (PO) by the Dwarka Court. Following their arrest, both individuals have been placed in judicial custody, with the investigation continuing.

Property Fraud Case Similar to Previous Incidents

A comparable case involving a husband-wife duo also came to light in 2024, where they were arrested by Delhi Police for their alleged involvement in a mobile phone theft. This incident was reported to the Jagat Puri Police Station through a PCR call. The complainant stated that the theft occurred at 6 AM near the Vijay Sariya Shop on the Main Road in Chander Nagar, with two individuals on a scooty snatching the Infinix phone.

Police Investigation and Arrest

Upon receiving the theft complaint, authorities registered a case under Sections 356, 379, and 34 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at Jagat Puri Police Station. A dedicated team was instructed to review CCTV footage from the incident to track the suspects’ escape route.

This analysis revealed that the scooty used in the theft had previously been reported stolen on May 4, 2024, under Section 379 IPC at PS Shakarpur. Utilizing the gathered information and surveillance footage, police identified the suspects as Maroof Khan and his wife, Shahida, also known as Soni.

Recovery of Stolen Items

A raid conducted at their location resulted in the successful arrest of both suspects. Authorities recovered the stolen Infinix mobile phone as well as the scooty involved in the crime, which were subsequently seized for further investigation.

The activities surrounding this case highlight ongoing issues with property fraud and theft in the region, prompting authorities to enhance their surveillance and response strategies in such crimes.
