25-year-old man found dead hours after going missing

A 25-year-old man from Kailashpuri in Delhi died after falling into an open drain late on Thursday night. The deceased, identified as Kamal, worked in Rohini and was returning home from his office when he met with the fatal accident. His death has led to the suspension of three officials from the Delhi Jal Board.

Family searched overnight after losing contact

According to family members, Kamal left his workplace in Rohini on Thursday evening but never reached home. His phone was switched off, and repeated attempts to reach him were unsuccessful. Growing increasingly worried, his family began searching for him across the city. They searched hospitals, police stations, and along possible travel routes, but there was no trace of him throughout the night.

Body recovered from open drain on Friday

On Friday morning, Kamal’s body was found in an open drain near Janakpuri. The spot reportedly had no warning signage or barriers. Residents and local authorities believe the drain was a result of repair or maintenance work by the Delhi Jal Board and had been left uncovered, turning into a potential hazard for commuters, especially during the night.

Delhi Jal Board acts against negligence

Following the incident, the Delhi Jal Board took disciplinary action and suspended three of its officials. The board stated that the decision was taken due to negligence in ensuring public safety during ongoing maintenance activities. An internal inquiry has also been initiated to investigate further lapses that may have contributed to Kamal’s death.

Investigation underway by police

The Delhi Police have registered a case and launched an investigation. Initial findings suggest that lack of visible markers or barricading around the open drain might have caused Kamal to lose balance while riding his bike and fall into the open section. CCTV footage from nearby areas is being reviewed to determine the exact sequence of events.

Public concern over road safety and open drains

Local residents have raised concerns about similar open drains and poorly managed infrastructure in other parts of the city. They have appealed to the authorities to ensure safer conditions, better lighting, and proper barricading around ongoing civic works. According to them, this is not the first time such an incident has occurred, and urgent attention is needed to avoid further loss of life.

Victim’s family demands justice

Kamal’s family expressed grief over the incident and has demanded accountability from the municipal and civic authorities. They stated that if safety measures had been in place, the accident could have been prevented. The family is cooperating with the police investigation and urged swift action against those found responsible for the oversight.
