Delhi Ashram Scandal: Director Accused of Sexual Harassment, On Run After Multiple Complaints

The CSR Journal Magazine

Swami Chaitanyananda Saraswati, the former director of Sri Sharda Institute of Indian Management in Vasant Kunj, Delhi, is facing serious allegations of sexual harassment after over 15 women students accused him of inappropriate behavior. The accusations include lewd text messages, physical misconduct, and the use of abusive language.

The women, who were pursuing post-graduate diploma courses under scholarships for economically weaker sections (EWS), claimed that some wardens had introduced them to the accused, facilitating the alleged incidents of harassment.

Police Conduct Raids as Investigation Unfolds

Following the complaints, the ashram administration took immediate action by removing Swami Chaitanyananda Saraswati from his position and severing all ties with him. The Sri Sharada Peetha, which oversees the Delhi branch, condemned his actions, stating that his behavior was “illegal and inappropriate.”

Police have launched an investigation into the matter, recording the statements of 32 students. Seventeen students have provided detailed accounts of abuse, and the police have seized a Volvo car linked to the accused. The car was found with a forged diplomatic number plate, which is now being examined as part of the investigation.

Faculty, Staff Allegedly Complicit in the Abuse

The police are also investigating allegations that some faculty members and administrative staff at the ashram pressured students into complying with Saraswati’s advances.

Several victims have stated that they were intimidated into silence and coerced by certain women faculty and staff members. Authorities are focusing on the role of these staff members and have questioned them in connection with the case.

Accused Still At Large

Despite extensive searches and raids, Swami Chaitanyananda Saraswati remains at large. His last known location was traced to Agra, but he has since been constantly changing locations. Police are also reviewing CCTV footage and other digital evidence, including hard drives seized during the raids.

Investigators are looking into his past, as he was previously accused of fraud and molestation in 2009 and 2016, with complaints filed against him in Defence Colony and Vasant Kunj areas. Authorities are hopeful that these previous cases could provide additional insights into his behavior.
