Deepak Tijori Slams CBFC Over Inconsistent Edits to ‘Dhurandhar 2’

The CSR Journal Magazine

Actor and director Deepak Tijori has voiced his concerns regarding the censorship practices employed by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) in the theatrical release of his film, Dhurandhar 2: The Revenge. He has criticized the board for what he perceives as inconsistencies in the treatment of abusive language across different platforms.

Questions Surround Partial Censorship

Tijori expressed bewilderment at the CBFC’s decision to “half-mute” certain expletives in the film’s theatrical version. He questioned the rationale behind this approach, stating that it would be more logical to either completely mute all offensive language or retain it without alteration. “I genuinely don’t understand this, why mute half the abuses and let the other half stay?” he stated, suggesting that the practice seems arbitrary at best.

Focus on Adult Certification

In his statement, Tijori also highlighted that the film has been rated for adult audiences only, questioning the necessity of partial censorship in this context. He asked, “Who exactly are we protecting here? And from what, half a word?” This statement underscores his view that there is a lack of clarity in the guidelines that govern censorship.

Double Standards in Censorship

The filmmaker further criticized what he termed a “double standard” in the treatment of content between theatrical releases and digital platforms. He noted that while the cinema version of Dhurandhar 2 features muted language, the film is released unaltered on OTT platforms. “The same film releases on OTT completely unmuted, exactly as it was meant to be,” Tijori observed, indicating that this inconsistency calls into question the reasoning behind the theatrical cuts.

Potential Impact on Younger Audiences

Tijori expressed concern that this discrepancy could inadvertently expose younger viewers to unfiltered content at home, even though cinemas enforce stricter regulations. He argued that the current censorship system raises significant questions about the effectiveness and consistency of content regulation across various viewing platforms, particularly in how it affects different age groups.
