Mumbai, India: In a heartfelt effort to address the multifaceted challenges faced by women, the Debabrata Auro Foundation (DAF) and QR678® organized a special event on PCOS Day, offering free counselling and hair regrowth therapy to women from underprivileged backgrounds. Sponsored by QR678®, this initiative, provided over 30 women with vital support in combating hair loss, a symptom often associated with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) that deeply impacts self-esteem and emotional well-being.
DAF, established in November 2016 by Dr Mitalee Shome, Dr Debraj Shome and Dr Rinky Kapoor in memory of (Late) Dr Debabrata Shome, a humanitarian and visionary, is dedicated to the holistic empowerment of women. The foundation’s mission stems from the belief that while India has made significant progress, the country still faces severe challenges, particularly among those living below the poverty line. Gender discrimination and lack of access to quality healthcare persist across all social strata, making the work of organizations like DAF crucial.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Rinky Kapoor, Dermatologist, Director, DAF, emphasized, “Hair loss is more than just a cosmetic issue; it’s a visible reminder of the broader health struggles women face, particularly those with PCOS. By providing free hair loss treatment, we aim to restore not only hair but also the dignity and confidence that these women deserve.”
QR678®’s sponsorship of this event with an investment of over Rs 8 lakh aligns with its commitment to social causes and empowering women through accessible healthcare. It also comes on the lines of the launch of a study titled ‘Uncovering the Hidden Link: PCOS and Its Impact on Hair Thinning and Loss,’ which revealed that 28% of women with female pattern hair loss (FPHL) were diagnosed with PCOS only after seeking treatment for hair thinning or loss. This study underscores the critical need for awareness and early diagnosis of PCOS, a condition affecting millions of women globally.
Dr Khushbu Jamasbi, Senior Manager, QR678®, added, “PCOS is a complex condition with far-reaching effects on women’s physical, emotional, and psychological health. Addressing hair loss through QR678® treatment is not just about cosmetic improvement; it’s about tackling the underlying health issues and helping women regain their confidence.”
The event also featured a virtual talk by Dr Parul Saoji, Fertility Specialist and Cosmetic Gynecologist, Oracle Clinic, Nagpur and doctors from the QR678® team on the importance of early detection of PCOS, discussing its prevalence, symptoms, and the often-overlooked impact of hair loss. Participants had the opportunity to engage in an interactive Q&A session, sharing their concerns and receiving expert advice.
Kirti Pandey, Manager, DAF, remarked, “This initiative is a testament to our belief that small efforts lead to big changes. By addressing the overlooked symptoms of PCOS, we are taking a significant step towards holistic women empowerment.”
DAF remains steadfast in its mission to empower women through initiatives that address not just their immediate needs but also the broader social and health issues they face. With the support of partners like QR678®, the Foundation continues to make a meaningful impact in the lives of women across India.
