The monsoon season brings it with much-needed rains. At the same time, it brings challenges related to water logging, damage to property due to falling trees etc. This year though is different, with the Covid-19 pandemic adding to the challenges. When it comes to our front-line personnel including traffic police, things can get tough.
To offer support to our front line personnel, ICICI Lombard General Insurance, India’s leading private non-life insurer, has collaborated with the Traffic Police in Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, and Thane. As part of the initiative, it has distributed 7,000 raincoats and 15,000 masks to the Traffic Police personnel in these locations. 5,000 raincoats and 10,000 masks out of this lot have been provided to Mumbai Traffic Police. The masks are World Health Organization (WHO) recommended N95 versions that are washable and reusable for long lasting use. The raincoats are made of 100% pure polyester fabric and are fully sealed, waterproof and moisture resistant for complete protection from the rains.
Speaking on the initiative, Sanjeev Mantri, Executive Director, ICICI Lombard said, “Braving the unpredictable city rains amid the Covid-19 pandemic, the traffic police personnel are out there on the roads to ensure smooth traffic flow. It is they who ensure round the clock road safety and make sure that the city keeps moving. Considering the need to protect these ‘Guardians of Road Safety’, we have come forward and distributed raincoats and masks to the traffic police personnel. This initiative is a natural extension to our commitment to road safety. It is our small token of gratitude for their relentless contribution and a salute to their spirit.”
Madhukar Pande, Joint Commissioner (Traffic) Maharashtra Police said “During this testing time of COVID-19 pandemic, we express our gratitude towards ICICI Lombard as it has provided Mumbai Traffic Police 5,000 rainwear and 10,000 N 95 masks. “
ICICI Lombard has stayed committed to road safety and has actively rolled out measures in sync with the cause. Its flagship CSR Campaign titled, “Ride to Safety” works towards the safety and well-being of people on 2 wheelers. It focuses on children as pillion riders and provides them specially designed ISI marked helmets. In the recent years, it has expanded the scope to distribute helmets among parents as well, to provide protection to the entire family and encourage helmet usage. As part of this exercise, it has been conducting workshops, rallies, and other on-ground programs across 7 cities. Further, it has distributed ISI-marked, specially designed helmets to over 1 lakh children and parents. The company also facilitated a Guinness World Record in 2019, wherein 4,999 school children wearing helmets participated in a helmet-shaped human formation to promote the cause of road safety.
