Congress MP Manickam Tagore Criticizes BJP Leader Nainar Nagendran’s Remarks About Women

The CSR Journal Magazine

Congress MP Manickam Tagore has strongly criticized Tamil Nadu BJP President Nainar Nagendran for making derogatory remarks about Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) founder Vijay and actress Trisha Krishnan, calling such language “cheap” and unacceptable. Speaking to the media, Tagore described the situation as unfortunate and linked the rise of such attitudes to the influence of the BJP and RSS in the state.

Tagore highlighted that such statements are inappropriate for any political leader, especially when directed at women. “Similar disrespectful language has been used against me, an elected MP from Karur, by BJP district officials during public events,” he stated. Tagore confirmed that an FIR has already been filed, urging the Tamil Nadu police to take strict action against those responsible.

Call for Cross-Party Condemnation

The Congress MP emphasized the importance of collective condemnation across political parties. He said that individuals from all professions, be it journalism, education, or public service, should be treated with respect, particularly women. Tagore also criticized the silence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on such matters, suggesting that it reflects a broader culture of disrespect nurtured within the BJP and RSS.

Controversy Sparked by Personal Comments

The controversy erupted when Nagendran made personal remarks about Trisha while criticizing Vijay, who recently launched his political party TVK. Trisha and Vijay, who have worked together in multiple films, became indirectly involved due to their professional association, making the comments highly sensitive.

Responses from other political leaders were swift. DMK Rajya Sabha MP Kanimozhi NVN Somu condemned the personal attacks, calling them “uncivilized” and demeaning toward women. DMK MP Tamizhachi Thangapandian echoed similar concerns, stressing that disparaging women publicly is entirely inappropriate. Their statements underline the broader call for gender respect across political and public domains.

Actress Trisha Responds Legally

Actress Trisha Krishnan responded to the controversy through her legal representative, Advocate Nithyaesh Natraj, posting a statement on her Instagram account. The statement criticized Nagendran’s remarks as “distasteful” and clarified that Trisha does not have any political affiliations.

“My client has always maintained a neutral stance regarding politics and has no intention to engage in it. She wishes to clarify that these comments do not reflect her views or actions,” the statement read. This move signals Trisha’s effort to distance herself from political disputes while maintaining her professional image.

Political and Public Backlash

The remarks have generated criticism across party lines, drawing attention to the importance of decorum in political discourse. Leaders from multiple parties, including Congress and DMK, have urged stronger accountability for leaders making inappropriate statements, particularly about women. This incident highlights ongoing concerns over the political culture of respect and the responsibilities of public figures in Tamil Nadu.
