CM Yogi Adityanath Compares Rahul Gandhi to a Failed Rocket

The CSR Journal Magazine

On Wednesday, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath made a comparison between Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and a cracker rocket that fails to launch. This statement was made during an NDA rally in Gorakhpur, where the chief minister addressed the audience as part of the ‘Loktantra Bachao, Arajakta Hatao’ (Save democracy, remove anarchy) march.

Adityanath’s comments were aimed at criticising the Congress party’s efforts to position Gandhi as a prominent national leader. During his speech, Adityanath expressed his scepticism regarding the Congress party’s repeated attempts to elevate Gandhi’s political stature. He remarked that despite numerous efforts, Gandhi has not been able to establish himself as a successful leader.

The chief minister drew a parallel to Diwali celebrations, where fireworks are launched, noting that some rockets do not take off even after being ignited. He stated, “People keep looking towards the sky, but the rocket remains where it is and only produces smoke before going out,” implying that Gandhi’s political career has similarly failed to gain momentum.

Gandhi’s Political Journey

Adityanath went on to outline the timeline of Gandhi’s political career, highlighting key milestones. He noted that Gandhi became a member of the Lok Sabha in 2004 and was appointed as the general secretary of the Congress party in 2007. His elevation to the position of vice-president occurred in 2013, and he later became the party president in 2017.

Despite these advancements, Adityanath pointed out that Gandhi faced a significant setback in 2019 when he lost the Lok Sabha election in Amethi. In response to Gandhi’s declining political fortunes, the Congress party has organised various initiatives, including the Bharat Jodo Yatra, Nyay Yatra, and Adhikar Yatra, in an effort to rejuvenate his image.

However, Adityanath suggested that these efforts have not been successful, stating, “Rahul Gandhi is now 56 years old, but he is still being presented as a young leader.” He emphasised that the metaphorical rocket of Gandhi’s political career is unlikely to ever take off. In addition to his comments about Gandhi, Adityanath also addressed remarks made by Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav.

Yadav allegedly stated that the next generation would seek revenge for past injustices. The chief minister responded by asserting that democracy should not be about revenge but rather about change facilitated through elections. He cited the electoral shifts that occurred in India in 2014 and in Uttar Pradesh in 2017 as examples of democratic change.

Presence of Key Political Figures

The NDA rally in Gorakhpur featured several prominent political figures, including BJP national president Nitin Nabin and state BJP president Pankaj Chaudhary. Their presence underscored the significance of the event and the BJP’s commitment to its agenda. Adityanath’s remarks were part of a broader strategy to consolidate support for the NDA and critique opposition parties.

The chief minister’s statements reflect ongoing political dynamics in Uttar Pradesh and the challenges faced by the Congress party in positioning its leaders effectively. As the political landscape continues to evolve, the effectiveness of such critiques remains to be seen. Overall, Adityanath’s comments serve as a reminder of the competitive nature of Indian politics, where leaders often engage in public discourse to assert their positions and influence voter sentiment.
