Chhattisgarh: Wife Kills Husband, Packs Body in Trolley Bag, Calls Daughter to Confess Murder

The CSR Journal Magazine

In a chilling crime that has stunned Chhattisgarh’s Jashpur district, a woman allegedly killed her 43-year-old husband and stuffed his body into a trolley bag before going on the run. The gruesome discovery was made after she reportedly called her daughter to confess to the murder. Police have launched a manhunt to arrest the absconding accused.

The accused allegedly called her daughter and said, “I have killed your father. His body is in the house, wrapped in a blanket and packed inside a red trolley bag.”

Confession Call to Daughter Exposes the Crime

The crime unfolded in Bhinjpur village, under Duldula police station limits. According to Senior Superintendent of Police Shashi Mohan Singh, the incident came to light when the accused woman phoned her daughter, who lives in Korba, and admitted to killing her husband, Santosh Bhagat. She allegedly told her daughter that she had wrapped the body in a blanket and packed it inside a trolley bag.

Shocked by the confession, the daughter and her husband immediately travelled to Bhinjpur and informed Santosh’s elder brother, Vinod Minj, who then filed a police complaint.

Police Discover Body Inside Red Suitcase

Acting on Vinod’s report, a police team rushed to the house and carried out a search. Inside a red trolley suitcase, officers discovered Santosh Bhagat’s body, wrapped in a blanket and bearing multiple injury marks.

Officials suspect that he was attacked with a sharp-edged weapon during a domestic quarrel. The body has been sent for post-mortem examination, and a case of murder has been registered.

Domestic Dispute Turns Deadly

Investigations suggest that the couple had frequent arguments. On the night of November 7, neighbours reportedly heard the two fighting. The next day, the accused allegedly killed her husband and remained with the body overnight before calling her daughter. Police believe she fled to Mumbai shortly after the crime, where she had been working before returning to the village a few months ago.

Hunt for the Accused Extends Beyond State Borders

SSP Shashi Mohan Singh confirmed that a police team has been dispatched to Maharashtra to trace and arrest the woman. “The accused told her daughter, who stays in Korba, that she had killed her husband Santosh Bhagat, covered his body with a blanket, and stuffed it into a trolley bag. The woman’s daughter, along with her husband, rushed to Bhinjpur the next day and informed Vinod Minj (45), elder brother of the deceased and case complainant,” the CSP said.

Santosh, who lived separately with his wife, had three married children residing outside the village. His sudden death has left relatives and neighbours deeply disturbed, with many describing the crime as “unbelievably cruel.”

A Family Torn Apart by Violence

What began as another argument between husband and wife ended in a brutal act that tore a family apart. “She didn’t just kill her husband; she destroyed our entire family,” said Vinod, the deceased’s elder brother. Police continue to investigate how the woman executed the killing and managed to conceal the body before fleeing.
