A delegation from the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) visited the Telangana Institute of Medical Sciences (TIMS) Hospital in Alwal on July 29, 2026. The 1,000-bedded facility represents a significant public healthcare initiative that began under the previous BRS administration led by former Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao (KCR). This visit took place against a backdrop of accusations from the opposition, suggesting that the current Congress government has stalled the hospital’s completion and operational launch.

During the visit, BRS Official Spokesperson Dr Manne Krishank expressed strong criticism regarding the delays attributed to the Congress government. He portrayed the protracted timeline for the hospital’s functionality as detrimental to public health services. The spokesperson’s comments highlighted ongoing concerns regarding the state administration’s commitment to healthcare initiatives promised to the populace.

Government Progress and Criticism

Dr Krishank referenced previous statements made by Roads and Buildings Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, who claimed during a visit nearly ten months into the Congress administration that approximately 90 per cent of the construction and related works were complete. However, despite the passage of time, essential finishing touches have not been enacted, leaving the hospital non-operational.

Further criticising the government, Krishank alleged that the pauses in the hospital’s inauguration may have political motivations. He claimed that statements from Chief Minister Revanth Reddy about dismantling the legacy of the KCR government might be a reason for the development stalling. The implication was that the delays may have been a conscious decision rather than an oversight.

Additionally, Krishank asserted that the lack of action to operationalise the facility is impacting potential healthcare accessibility for the local population. The spokesperson lamented that the Congress administration’s focus on political agendas is overshadowing the essential needs of public health services.

Controversy Over Access Restrictions

The BRS delegation’s visit was marred by tensions with local law enforcement. Reports indicated that police obstructed the delegation from entering the hospital following a complaint from a local Congress Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA), which raised questions about the appropriateness of the restrictions. Krishank responded by stating that citizens possess the democratic right to access facilities funded by taxpayer money, arguing that police interference undermines public rights.

In a further escalation of tensions, the delegation encountered additional obstructions when the police reportedly cut the power supply to the hospital premises. BRS leaders condemned this action, labelling it unnecessary and politically charged. They suggested that such measures are indicative of a broader pattern of suppression aimed at preventing public scrutiny of the project.

The BRS delegation’s visit, marked by conflict and escalating allegations, underscores the contentious political environment around public healthcare in Telangana. While the facility represents a crucial development in public health infrastructure, the ongoing delays and controversies surrounding its operationalisation continue to draw scrutiny and debate from all political factions involved.
